How do you determine the number of ridings in Canada?
The number of ridings in Canada is determined by the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, which mandates a review of electoral districts every ten years. The process involves analyzing population data from the national census and considering geographic and demographic factors to ensure effective representation. Each province and territory is allocated a specific number of ridings based on its population relative to others. Adjustments may also occur due to changes in population distribution or shifts in demographics.
Which group's views are considered to be on the left?
In politics, the term 'the left' refers to the radical or socialist views and political position of certain parties of a political system, or may refer to the position taken by members within a particular political group, party or sector. ('The right' refers to a more conservative position, one that preserves traditional or cultural values.) Related political terms: left wing, center (holding moderate views, neither left nor right), right wing. ---- NOTE:
1. While it is easy to describe certain political positions as being either 'left' or 'right', in reality such a clear distinction cannot always be made between their respective policies. Many right-wing groups embrace left-wing principles, and vice versa. Party manifestos cover a wide range of social, financial and commercial issues, and often there is very little difference, if any, between the position of the 'leftists' and the 'rightists' on some matters. (In order to identify how far 'left' or 'right' a particular position is, a close and detailed analysis of each political stance is recommended.) 2. Political views are far more complex than simply left or right. See related links below. ---- IDEOLOGIES
Some ideologies considered to be ...
* left: communism, anarchism, social democracy, anti-capitalist * right: monarchists, 'aristocrats', royalists, imperialism, fascism, religious fundamentalism, capitalist. EXTREMES: Some leftist or rightist views are considered by others to be extreme-left or extreme-right (far right). ------------------------------------------------------- A few examples of political positions, by country:

What are the policies of the Libertarian Party?
In short, Libertarians believe the government should never violate an individuals rights (socially liberal), and should be extremely limited its power, especially in regards to the economy (economically conservative).
Carried forward, Libertarians generally support gay rights, a woman's right to choose ("pro-choice"), and an individuals privacy (opposed to the Patriot Act, and to a degree also opposed to the CIA). Anything that expands the individuals' rights, Libertarians support.
Economically, Libertarians generally believe that Capitalism should be unregulated. There are some blatant problems with monopoly and scams (i.e. Ponzi schemes), and a certain number of Libertarians believe there ought to be some regulation.
In a similar vein, Libertarians generally are opposed to the power of the monopoly called government. As a political philosophy, Libertarians believe the government should exist only to protect the liberties of its citizens. A strong military is acceptable, but Libertarians favor the philosophy of the founding fathers - nonintervention.
These "policies" are only as I understand them, and should not be taken as representative of all Libertarians. Visit www.LP.org to learn more.
Foreign policy is the practices associated with a government's handling foreign nations. Nations can change their foreign policies at any time with the right votes.
What is the problems with individualism?
Some problems seen with individualism is that it is completely focused on the individual and not the community and can lead to selfishness and self centered behavior.
The question when it comes to politics and economics is individualism vs collectivism. People who subscribe to individualism believe if you made money you did it entirely yourself and have no reason to share that wealth with others in society and that individuals (or corporations) are responsible for creating things like roads, train tracks, etc and the maintenance invovled with them. That is the opposite of collectivism which believes if you made money that was because of a society has helped and that redistributing some of that wealth is important so people can afford to keep purchasing products and that roads, railroads etc. are used and supported by all people whether they are workers, business owners or the business themselves and must pay through taxation in order to keep up building new roads and maintaining existing which then in turns helps society as a whole.
Difference between globalisation and liberalisation?
Globalisation
Globalization as many of you have heard is the greater integration among countries and economies for trade, economic, social, and political benefits. Globalization in trade is also called 'one global market place' where a consumer does not have to restrict their purchases to one country/economy and can enjoy the benefits of the goods and services produced worldwide. For example, Macy is a popular department store in the United States, but does not have outlets in many Asian countries. Many years ago before globalization, an Asian consumer would not be able to purchase Macy's products, however, nowadays due to globalization, any customer, in any part of the world, can purchase Macy's products and have them delivered to their doorstep by making transactions online.
Liberalisation
Liberalization, though similar to globalization, is more focused on the local economy. Liberalization generally refers to the removal of restrictions; usually government rules and regulations imposed on social, economic, or political matters. Liberalization maybe trade, social, economic, or capital market related. Social liberalization, for example, maybe related to things like making abortion related laws less stringent. Trade liberalization maybe with regard to reducing restrictions on imports or exports and facilitating free trade.
DIFFERENCE B/W THEM
Globalization and liberalization are concepts that are closely related to one another. A country usually experiences liberalization of its economic and other policies, which is later on followed by globalization. There are, however, many differences between the two. Liberalization generally relates to activity within a certain country as a result of modernization and development. Globalization relates to activities among countries and results in interdependence and interaction among countries and facilitates the movement of goods and services, capital, individuals, knowledge, technology.
