According to the 1997 Lincoln Continental Owner Guide :

With engine oil filter change :

( 6.0 U.S. quarts / 5.7 liters of 5W-30 engine oil )

pop the trunk and right behind where the lights are pull the carpet down and their will be either light sockets that twist and pull,or there will be plastic nuts,just unscrew and take the lens off

Look ontop the radiator front middle. there should be a diagram sticker there.

Have you looked on the driver's side door or doorjamb for the manufacturer's sticker?

well first you have to find out where the filter is, is it in the tank or by the tank on the outside. if its in the tank then you have to take the gas out of the tank and drop the tank, get help if needed, make sure you disconnect the filler neck before you drop the tank. disconnect any hoses and wires necessary and then take off the ring that holds the tank in place you should have a gasket also, youre gonna have to put grease on the new gasket to keep it in place while you connect the new assembly on. pull out the old unit and discard. there maybe a wire screen that was used to keep the dirt out, you can buy another one or clean the one you have, if its to bad just replace it and be done. clean the tank around the flang and make sure no dirt get into the tank. installation is the reverse of removal.

Open the trunk. You will see near the back of the trunk from the inside a place to remove the carpet covering the trunk body. Peel back the carpet, and look for wires running from below the trunk into the tail light housing. Depending on the Continental, you will either need to unscrew the light housing to reach the bulb, or twist the bulb housing and remove it to expose the bulb.

It is very easy to do once you locate the wires running into the housing.

It is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and 1=2=3=4 are front to back on the pass side. The dist turns counterclockwise.

The 6 disk CD player was an option. Depending on what model you have on the 1995-97 Lincoln Continental, the changer is either in the arm rest area on the center console or behind the drink holder on the models with the column shifters.

Check to see if you have brake lights. There is a switch on the brake pedal called the brake-on-off (BOO) switch that tells the system that the brakes are being applied. If it is bad, the transmission shift lock will not disengage and let you shift out of park. They are cheap and can be bought at Advance or any other parts store. It is also pretty easy to replace. Just take your time.

It is either in or next to the fuse box under the hood.

Replace the Flasher Relay.

Your best bet and really the best way is to call all local auto parts stores in your area and locate a repair manual tailored to your vehicle! Most manuals will cover several autos or trucks and that's fine. About $20.00 for lots and lots if information!

Couple things, one you could have dirty fuel injectors, id add a can of seafoam or lucas fuel injector cleaner to your gas tank. Another thing is that car requires 91 octane for gas, you can put 87 "regular" but the engine just doesnt perform up to efficiancy, so try atleast 91 octane if you cant find any gas stations with 91 you can put 93 octane in, what happens when you put not the recommended fuel in the engine it starts building carbon in the intake manifold, the higher the octane the hotter and quicker the combustion. What would really help is adding 1/3 can of seafoam engine cleaner, i put that stuff in my 01 continental in all three locations it says on the bottle, one is in your gas tank, oil fill, and throttle body. Gas tank it cleans injectors, takes water out of tank and fuel lines, cleans combustion chamber, intake valves, in oil fill it takes moisture out of oil and helps lubricate the pistons and lifts and frees the lifters, and in throttle body, what you do it take your air cleaner hose off so you see the two butterflies on the TB, with the car off pour 1/3 can into the butterflies, you might have to open the butterflies so the seafoam can go down, after that put the air cleaner hose back on and start your car, its gonna hesitate and spit and spudder but just keep tapping the gas to keep it running, what its doing is cleaning all the built up carbon in your intake manifold, your gonna see alot of blue smoke for a couple of minutes, and that should help.

Disconnect the negative battery cable and then hold the brake down for about a minute. Be careful when doing this, be sure you have the code to unlock the radio. I personally have not had problems with the radio when clearing codes. If the light doesn't reset try it for a longer period of time or take it to Autozone to see if they will clear it with their scantool.

In most cases, the brakes will function fine even if the ABS is not working (you just won't have the ABS feature). If you have to exert more pressure than normal on the brakes, you can be looking at an issue with the brake booster or some other part not necessarily associated with the ABS system. It sounds like the ABS light might be a secondary symptom of a larger problem. I would recommend taking the vehicle to a qualified shop asap.

fuel tank ( the fuel pump is INSIDE the fuel tank )

hi, under the hoood near firewall you will see steel deck with foam cushion, you need to start there with screws that hold it up by windshield, when you remove the coverlid you will see motor held by a few bolts and a clip on shaft you unbolt and let drop down easy to twist it out ive done it takes a bit of time but can be done with simple tools, i ireccommend you go to adap to look in the town car paperback just to see photos before you attempt as a first timer....best of luck

just one thing, don't go to Canadian tire to replace it. you need somebody who knows Lincoln. They broke my table when trying to remove the ball joint on my 1999 cont 4,6 lit.
