What did the Milton Bradley that was born in Maine do?
MILTON BRADLEY Born Vienna, Maine 1836 Resided Mt. Vernon, Maine 1846 Milton Bradley's grandparents, Josiah & Phoebe (Webster) Bradley came to Vienna from N.H. in 1799. They had a son, Lewis, who was Milton Bradley's father. Milton Bradley was born in Vienna 11-18-1836, and his birthplace is an old cape next to the Vienna Grange Hall (the old school) right in the village. When Milton was 2 yrs old his family moved to Mercer, Maine, then to Wilton, NH. While in NH his father became interested in the new potato starch industry & returned to Mercer where he began a successful potato starch factory. Unfortunately, Maine was stricken by potato rot two years later & the business went "under". Lewis then moved his family to Mt. Vernon in 1846 where they stayed for part of that year, and Lewis worked in Smithfield until he learned of the chances for lucrative employment in Lowell, Mass. Milton Bradley lived the rest of his life in Massachusetts, and was in his early 20's when he invented his first game called the "Checkered Game of Life". Before long he was producing all kinds of games, and became known as "The man who taught America how to play." One of the things he did was to design game kits for soldiers in the Civil War to help them pass time. He insisted on his games promoting good family values & refused to include any gambling elements.

Did the people of Phippsburg Maine really burn down Malaga Island?
NO. The State of Maine hired a used to blacksmith to go to the island and determine if the people were "feeble minded" or not. He also decided who should be sent to The Maine School for the Feeble Minded. The state sent 6 or 7 people there, as well as the bodies they exhumed off the island. 5 of the 7 died in that school, 4 of them children. These people were not feeble minded as they had a school on the island and they could read and write just as well as the town and city kids. My Great Grandmother was born and went to school on the island. The folks who werent' "feeble minded" were evicted, many tried to seek shelter on the mainland, and were usually turned out because the state had given them such a bad reputation. Others floated their houses down the river and lived on them for a while. When the island was empty, the State hired people to go and burn all the houses that remained standing. So in answer to your question, Phippsburg did not do it, the Governor of the State of Maine and his council did it.
The Indians of the Northeast kept everything pretty simple. They Summered at the coasts, and Wintered inland (typicaly in Fur Forestation). They built shelters of Wood, bark, Pine Straw, deer hide, etc. Many housed several families at a time. As for more ancient civilizations in the Northeast, evidence of more ancient retreats exist in the inland forests by the presence of "cairns". Some are still erect man-made caves of stone, others destroyed to just mounds of stone. They are present accross the northern northeast states. source: the web

What plan does Maine and Nebraska use?
In U. S. Presidential/ Vice Presidential elections, Maine and Nebraska are the only states that do not appoint their electors on a winner-takes-all basis, in which the winner of a state's popular vote receives 100% of the state's electoral votes. In each of the two states, two electoral votes go to the winner of the popular vote in the whole state, and each additional electoral goes to the winner of the popular vote in each federal congressional district. That reflects each state's number of electors being equal to their number of U. S. Senators, who are elected by statewide vote, plus their number of U. S. Representatives, each of which is elected by one congressional district.
Technically, the seven smallest states by population also follow this rule, since each of those states has one representative in the House.
