Its a bear to do, you have to remove the center console also the panel for the glove box. The in-out hoses must be detached from the heater core. You dissaemble unit that houses the core and blower fan. Be prepared with plenty of rags and muscle ointment, rags for driping coolen, ointment for a sore back from reaching back to the firewall and crawling on the floor to remove the core. It would be a good idea to get a manual with pictures and diagrams to help do this.

Pull out the plug(there's a squeeze tab to squeeze) from the bulb's terminals. Pull off the rubber thingy. Unhook and swing away the wire retainer. The bulb will pretty much fall out. Do not touch the glass of the new bulb as oil is bad for the glass when hot. Put the new bulb in noting the positions of the tabs. Swing the wire retainer back over the bulb's case and hook it closed. Press the rubber thingy on. Plug the plug in.

There are multiple freeze plugs for these motors. From memory ther are 3 freeze plugs located down the each side of the block and possibly one located on the head.

Lift the MPV up by the body jack points. Remove wheel. Remove axle nut, if you have a 1/2 impact gun it will be easier. Remove ABS line going into the knuckle (small 10mm head bolt) The ABS sensor may need to be carefully rocked back and forth to get it out. Be careful not to break it. Remove brake caliper and support it by using a coat hanger to keep the brake line from taking all the weight of it. (the brake line can get damaged internally) Remove Rotor. Remove the bottom strut bolts (2 of them). Push the axle out of the hub, you might need to help it with a hammer. You should have enough room to get the axle out without removing the lower balljoint. If you have trouble, then remove the tie rod end and/or the lower balljoint. Take a prybar and pop the inner axle joint out of the transmission. Good luck.

Front blower motor resistor is to left of blower motor assembley, attached on the top of a plastic duct piece that has clipws holding it together. Take out the glove compartment and you'll sse a connetcing piece of black plastic duct work between the blower motor and the center counsel . You have to buy the whole upper duct piece from Mazda parts around $100 tas the resistor is attached to it. . There are white connectors coming out of the duct going straight up. I had to have the dealer show me where it is. Looks fairly simple to put in.

On my 1990 MPV, the middle seat is removed by releasing the rear brackets. To do this you have to find the two black release knobs at each end, under the seat front. They have to be pulled and, at the same time, the seat has to be tilted up and forward. You have to be an octopus to do all this by yourself. And you can't sit on the seat while doing this either. Once the seat is released, you can slide it forward to free it and remove it from the car. Caution! It is very heavy! You will definitely need help for this task. The rear seat has to be unbolted from the car to be removed. In addition to the hinge bolts, there is the bolt for the seat retaining bar.

On the bottom radiator hose. You have to drain the radiator first. If you crawl under it, you will see a plastic wing nut on the bottom right. Take it out to drain it. Then remove the bottom hose and you will see it. Between the radiator and the hose.

The '01 Mazda MPV with the 2.5 Liter engine actually has two timing chains, one for each side of the V6 engine. This engine has 2 overhead cams on each side of the engine (DOHC) controlled by the 2 chains.

There is a coolant temperature sensor and a temperature gauge sensor. the coolant sensor is located on driver side of the cylinder head. screws right into it, and the temperature gauge sensor is on the front side of the cylinder head right under the distributor. hope this helps

Found this online, this worked on my wife's 2000 Protege:

Step 1: Open drivers door and leave open.

Step 2: Lock and unlock the drivers door using the power door lock switch on the door.

Step 3: Insert key into the ignition.

Step 4: Turn key to on position and return to off position. (IMPORTANT - use ON position NOT ACC position). Do this 3 times within 10 seconds. Leave key in the ignition.

Step 5: Close and open the drivers door 3 times. (Door should be left open after this step).

Step 6: ECU should respond by locking and unlocking the doors.

Step 7: Press any button on remote #1 2x. ECU responds by locking and unlocking the car doors.

Step 8: Press any button on remote #2 2x (etc.) Each time the ECU will respond by locking & unlocking the doors.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and the ECU will respond a final time with a series of door locks and unlocks. You're done!
