How do you replace the headlight bulb for low beam on a 2002 Mazda Protege 5?
If you still have your owners manual it shows you how to change the bulb if not you disconnect the 3 pronged plug from the back of the light and there is a metal spring that releases the bulb. Once you have disconnected those you simply take out the old bulb and put in a new one repositioning the metal spring which holds the bulb in place and reconnecting the 3 pronged plug. Voila let there be light!
Just replaced passenger side low beam bulb. 12 minutes. saved $75.
Remove one bolt holding steering fluid bottle and lift out of the way as much as you can. Take out the stopper for the windshield fluid and put aside. Get as much room as you can. Pull off the white two-wire base. It is probably stuck so fool with it until it comes off. It just fits into a two-prong black base. No strange stuff. Take off rubber shield entirely. It just fits around the black base and slides off easily. Look down at the bulb to see the black base held in with a metal cage clip. The right side has a rounded wire latch with the round side pointing down. That releases the cage. Use screwdriver, long-nose pliers, or fingers to push the round wire clip slightly toward the front of the car and down slightly. It is barely holding the cage. Move the cage out of the way. Pull out the bulb assembly and remove the bulb from the black base. Put the bulb/base assembly back into the headlight. Swing the cage back over the black base. Reattach the cage by hooking the rounded clip back under the little metal lip you took it off from. Stretch the rubber hole in the shield slightly and push over the black base and around the opening. Reinstall white wire base. Replace fluid bottle and bolt. Replace windshield funnel top. Finished! I'd advise using bulb prong lubricant to keep it from sticking in the future.

Where is the horn relay located on 1994 Mazda protege?
Have your Mazda dealer parts department print out a picture of the relays location for you. They will do this if you ask them.
How do you fix a horn that won't stop going off in a 1997 Mazda Protege?
if your horn wont go off its a short to power or faulty conector
Where is the heater relay on a 1995 Mazda Protege?
The relay is H270 above the fuse block next to the clutch pedal.
Does the Protege overdrive have a fuse or a relay?
The overdrive problem on a 1995 Mazda Protege is due to a failing spring in the end housing inside the transmission. If you replace the spring with a new or used factory spring the problem will re occur. You must use a revised version to permanently fix this problem. I have seen salvage yards advertise this overdrive unit. What a scam. Even the brand new factory unit will fail, so obviously a used one will also fail. You must contact a transmission shop, they will probably have seen many of these in their shop and will have the part number of a revised unit.
Where is the fuel filter located on a 1991 Mazda Navajo?
If like the '93, it will be under the driver side door, tucked inside the frame.
It is located in this spot. Not much room and the fittings are tight.
Where is the idle adjustment on a 1992 protege?
I looked into this about 5 years ago. idle is not user adjustable and the 92 is factory set to idle very slow about 800 to 900 rpm. I think it is computer controlled. Incorrect sir. There is a bolt under where the accelator cable is connected that you can adjust and it WILL affect your idle, you can do this with a simple screw driver if you really feel that you need to.
What size spark plug is used by Mazda Protege?

Why would a Daewoo Matiz lose engine power?
Could be any number of things. Could be:-
1. Blockage in your fuel filter
2. Blockage in your cat convertor
3. Blockage in your fuel pipe
4. Faulty Map/Oxygen sensor
5. Dirty or faulty injector
6. Exhaust Blockage
7. Low Voltage i.e. battery/HT lead/Dissy Cap/Rotar Arm/Sparks
(you may be running on only 2 cyclinders!)
and this list is by no means exhausted...
My advice is to cough up £60/£70 and go to a dealer to get a read out, but before that do number 1 & 7 as they are cheap to do, any probably needs changing anyway!
Regards,
Daewooboy

My 2001 Matiz recently had some problems. Initially, when trying to start the motor, it wouldn't start and there was no noise at all indicating a problem with the starter motor. After clutch starting it and 5km down the road, it began to lose power finally losing all power at the traffic lights. After getting it towed, I was told that it was a problem with the computer and that the starter motor, battery and alternator were perfect and there was no blockage in the fuel pipe.
A Holden representative had to visit the mechanic with his piece of equipment that interprets the error code that was coming from the computer and there was found to be a problem with the cambus part in computer. Additionally, there was found to be water in the distributor (how it got here I don't know how). All up to fix this issue was $140 AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR. $100.00 was for the hour the Holden rep spent at the mechanics performing the diagnostic system scan. The $40 AUD was the mechanic's work fixing the distributor (apparently there was a distributor pipe that was facing upwards allowing water to enter).
I hope this helps,

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1995 Mazda Protege 1.5L?
drian raidiator, disconnect airintake sensors, remove intake, follow upper radiator hose to the Thermostat housing, remove 2 bolts, hose should move enough to get new thermostat in, install new thermostat with the little vent thing up and a new gasket
notes: gasket cement helps in installing parts in difficult locations and there are 3 different thermostats for the 1.5l, also if possible back flush before starting takes about 1hr the cooling system since you have to drain anyway
What do you do when the flashers go out on a 1998 Mazda Protege?
Start by checking all the lamps to make sure 1 is not blown that could be the cause. If not a lamp it will be the actual flasher unit which is located under the dashboard usually drivers side. You are looking for a cylinderical shaped unit silver in colour around 2 to21/2 inches long and 1" in diameter with a 2 pin plug in one end. Usually held in a spring bracket. If you get that out take it to an Auto parts shop and buy a new one ansd stick it back in. Should do the trick
How do you change a 2002 Mazda protege alternator belt?
First you need to remove the AC belt to be able to install the alternator belt.
This can be accomplished by loosening the hinge bolt and set bolt on the side. Then adjust the tensioner bolt till you can slip the AC belt off.
Then you need to loosen the alternator hinge bolt and the set bolt on the side. Then adjust the tensioner bolt to the point where you can put the new alternator belt on to the main drive pulley, water pump and alternator pulleys. Then tighten the tensioner bolt till the belt has about 1/2 of give in the middle of the belt. Once in place tighten the set belt and hinge bolt.
Repeat the same process for putting the AC belt back on.
***I have replaced my alternator belt 4 times in the last two years and need to install it for the 5th time. I just found out that there is a consistent issue with Protoges and aftermarket alternator belts and proper fit. Save your self the time of doing this job over and over again and buy the OEM belt from your Mazda dealer.***
Where can you find a schematic of the engine on a 1993 Mazda Protege?

What is the egr valve for in 91 wrangler?
The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve redirects exhaust gases back to the intake manifold and cools the cylinders down. On something that old, it's probably vacuum operated. A vacuum line going into the top of the valve pulls up a pintle. One side of the valve has a hose from the exhaust, and the other side goes to the intake.
Where is the spark plug located in a 2001 Mazda Protege?
First you're not looking for the right wire type... If you're looking for a standard 1/4" black wire that would normally run from a distributor cap to the plug you would be wrong... so:
Look right on top of the aluminum engine block and you will see the word Mazda and behind that you'll see your engine size. Between the two you'll see a round black rubber grommet and two black blocks with wires running through them (these are the ignition coils). If you look closely you'll see another rubber grommet under all the wiring. Your plugs are under all that wiring in about 4" deep wells. First you will need to remove four bolts that hold the coils into place (2) per for a total of (4) bolts. If I recall correctly you will need a 10mm socket to get these out. Before continuing mark each of the four cables with a number (1-4, left to right) so you don't get these mixed up. Next pull on the rubber grommet labeled #1 (NOT THE WIRE) and pull it all the way out. You will see your plug waaaay down below. Repeat.
Hints: Using a 6" extension on your socket remove all the old plugs first. When doing so use the rubber sleeve that is inside the socket to help get the plug out of the well. When putting the new plugs in remove the rubber sleeve from inside the socket so that the socket can be pulled off the plug and out of the well.
Notes: 1.) Always use an anti-seize compound on the threads of the new spark plugs. This can be purchased along with the plugs. 2.) NEVER over-tighten. Snug is 'snuff. Hope that helps.
