I bought a 1992 300SL and the seats were so hard that I thought something was wrong. So I went to a showroom and sat in the seat of a 1998 500SL, same hard seats. To remedy the problem I had my upholstery specialist take my seats apart and replace the German horsehair/hard rubber fabric with modern foam rubber. The seats are much more comfortable now but not as comfortable as my Volvo. The Volvo also has cup holders, the Mercedes does not, which helps understand the hard seats.
when i took off the fuel pump relay and i hotwired the fuel pump to work, &started the engine i got 1500 rpm at idle and abs light on, it probably something to do with this. im not 100% sure tho. Check the overload protector located on the drivers side cowl, it is aluminum with a red top. There is a fuse under the top cover. On my 560 sel I had to replace the overload protector and that cured the high idle problem and turned off the abs light,
What do you mean by this?
I would also like to point out that there is a microswitch attached to the gear selector on auto models which sometimes goes wrong (did on mine) and willnot allow you to start the engine without it being in "park" or "neutral"
If the CL you are referencing is a 98 or 99 - which in Mercedes factory speak makes it a 140 chassis, the trunk was designed to be opened by remote control fob. There is a strong spring which will open the trunk completely once the lock is triggered, either manually on the trunk, or by the remote key fob.
If you mean the trunk is only opening half way, the spring can be broken, or it may not be fastened tightly on the hinge, but you should be able to easily open the trunk the rest of the way by hand.
If the "soft-closure" mechanism is not working property, it can be reset by taking both fuses out that are identified as to that system for 15 seconds, which will allow the computer to reset. It should begin working again unless the system has failed completely, and then there is a central Bosch system box that needs to be replaced.
The fuel-filler door is part of the vacuum power-lock system. You must unlock the diver or passenger side door. The fuel-filler door and the trunk will unlock at the same time.
Their is one in the back of the radio as well their is one in the trunk right side
Models with a D in there name are diesel. At least in the USA. The 560SEL is not.
After much frustration we finally were able to remove the rear door panel from my brother's MB s500. The perimeter clips and obvious fastners were easy! The last two screws were hidden behind the wood grain panel behind the door grip. This panel was removed by sliding a thin "spatulla" (I made one from a hacksaw blade of which I ground the teeth off and softend the edges) Just slide the tool between the back of the woodgrain panel and the upholstery, feel the plastic clip (there are two of them), and lift up. Take out the two phillip's head screws. Hope this helps you? ps ~ you may want to lightly spray the window's weatherstrip (that touches the glass) with silicon, lets the panel slide upward more easily.
Does the noise occur while driving? Jack up the rear wheels after securing the front wheels (you don't want to win a Darwin Award). Release the parking brake and place the transmission in "neutral." Check the oil level in the differential. If that's okay, rotate the tires and listen for noise coming from the CV joints or the brakes. Also check your universal joints.
yes but it will effect the ride quality according to Mercedes you should stick with max size of 20 inch.

Warning, you may be very unhappy with the handling of the car afterwards. If you are just styl'n, or want to see if parked on the street like this go ahead, but be prepared for an EBJ ride afterwards as you will lose the compliance of the sidewalls. (EBJ - Eye Ball Jiggler)
I HAVE A 1991 560SEL MY NUMBERS ARE LOCATED ON THE DISTRIBITOR CAP ,ON THE DRIVER SIDE ,1ST PLUG IS 1-4 , PASSENGER SIDE 5-8Type your answer here...
Fuel door is locked when car locked, push on the forward part of door, the aft side will pop out.
It's located under the foot-rest of the passenger side seat.
Its best to have the vehicle scaned, But a good place to start looking is the MAF sensor. Try tapping lightly on it and see if there is any change in the idle.
Hi there, This is really quite simple. You will need to remove the entire tail lamp assembly to do this.
open the rear tail gate.
locate the 2 10mm nuts (black plastic) on the right side of the left brake lamp assembly, (should also have a slot for a Phillips screw driver).
Remove these 2 nuts.
Tail lamp assembly is then pressed into a grommet at the rear. You will need to pull straight out towards the rear. (Might be tight) I sometimes use a plastic wedge to help pry off tail lamp assembly.
Once tail lamp is out, just depress the 2 plastic clips to release the bulbs from inside the assembly.
And replace needed bulbs. (brake light will be the top one) (12v 21w) single filament.
Hope this helps.
Check Ebay for an owners manual. They come up for sale quite often.
I have a 1985-86 MB 500 SL the fuse box is on the front passenger side down by the floor in the back on the door side. There is a piece of plastic about 7-8 inches wide by 5-6 inches tall that just pops out with a flat head screw driver. All my info is in German so not sure which fuse is for the blower motor but #3&4 are for the windows. Mine was imported so you might have normal fuses but mine are not. Mine are a 1 inch round like a pencil piece of plastic with a a dome of metal at each end and a skinny piece of metal connecting the two ends. Hope this helps, good luck!
