The PCV valve is located on the back side of the intake plenum.. When facing the engine, locate the second intake from your right. Run your hand to the back side of the intake plenum. The PCV valve is screwed into the backside. Start the engine, disconnect the hose from the valve. You should hear the air from the valve. Stick your finger on the hole and you should feel the vacuum on a good valve. If not, replace it.

Look at your temperature gage...If that is low, you might have a bad thermostat, which would keep your heater from working...I would check that first.

also, check the cab air filter. i had the same problem. temp was fine but the filter was full.

With it's standard engine option the Mountaineer has towing capacity of just under 7000 lbs. It's best to get the towing packing if you buy a new model and intend to pull a boat or trailer. The engine is fuel injected so there is no carburetor on a 2000 Mercury

Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine in your Mercury Mountaineer ( V6 + V8 )

Sensor 1 is in the exhaust close to the engine before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter

The 1997 Mercury Mountaineer power window fuse will be the number seven fuse. The number seven fuse will be in the first column, third from the bottom.

You can recharge your air conditioning system by putting Freon into the low pressure port. The low pressure port can be found on top of the air conditioning compressor.

some 1997 mountaineers didn't come with the dpfe sensor, you will have to look at the egr positioning sensor which is right on top of the egr valve itself . hope that helps

There isn't one, the transmission is filled thru a small stand pipe in the transmission pan. I have found it very difficult to get the level correct, too little and the trans slips after hard braking and too much it foams and shifts hard because of air in the fluid. You will need a dispenser and a pipe fitting to tackle this.

There isn't one. It is a drain and fill transmission. There is a fill plug on the bottom of the transmission pan. I just went through this with my 97 passport. It requires a special temperature tool to check the level. I just took it to the dealership.

Remove the cruise control and unplug the pump. Simply disconnect the two plugs and pull the pump out of the fluid resevoir. Connect the hoses to the new pump, plug in the electrical connectors and plug the pump back into the resevoir. Make sure to hook the cruise control back up. All the controls on the steering wheel are ran through the cruise control. By not plugging the cruise back up, you will not have a horn, radio controls, etc... Remove the cruise control and unplug the pump. Simply disconnect the two plugs and pull the pump out of the fluid resevoir. Connect the hoses to the new pump, plug in the electrical connectors and plug the pump back into the resevoir. Make sure to hook the cruise control back up. All the controls on the steering wheel are ran through the cruise control. By not plugging the cruise back up, you will not have a horn, radio controls, etc...

The 4.0 L - V6 - takes ( 5 quarts - U.S. of 5W-30 )

The 4.6 L - V8 - takes ( 6 quarts of 5W-20 )

According to the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer Owner Guide

there are inset slots on the pole holders. these slots are flush mount and can be pushed in with a key

If you are going over an uneven surface, the light may come on because one wheel is spinning faster then the others.

I have 209K on my 2004 transmission. It is still going strong. at 100K I had the celenoid replaced and a couple of fresh quarts of transmission fluid as part of the endeavor. Rough shipfting got better and it has gone strongly ever since. I simply don't know how long it will last but I've set 250K as a short term milestone and will reassess after that.
