It sounds like you radio may be broke. I use to get an error message on mine. I would suggest that your take the radio out, and leave it unplugged for about 30 mins to 1 hour. Plug it back in and see what happens. If the problem continues, then you may need to have it repaired.

I had a similar problem with my CD changer, and disconnected the positive battery cable for about a minute, which reset the radio/CD changer and corrected the problem.

looking for a diagram for 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. Need to take the fuse out for the seatbelt alarm, it will not shut off.

Some vehicles are equipped with a low brake fluid level light that is nothing more then an electric float device mounted in the master cylinder brake fluid resevoir, when the brake fluid drops to a certain level the float drops also setting off an electric sensor warning light telling the driver of the vehicle a possible problem may be taking place in the braking system of the vehicle.

Check the condition of all four brakes look for any brake fluid leaks at the wheel cylinders, brake lines, master cylinder etc. if all is ok fill the master cylinder to its proper fill line and the light should go out.

NEW ANSWER: I believe the question was a brake light problem.

If you are SURE the brake light switch on the pedal is good then you need to check all the GROUNDS in the brake light wiring harness and the grounds in the rear brake light sockets. If those things check out okay, Then your brake light problem is most likely the multifunction switch in the steering column.

It would have been NICE to have known what YEAR and type that you are working on.

Many auto parts stores sell a helicoil thread insert kit that will replace the damaged or missing threads. The kit should include an installation tool that will reach down into where the spark plug was removed. The kit will have instructions on enlarging the stripped hole and creating new threads for the helicoil or steel insert. A new spark plug should thread directly into the new thread insert.

you must change out the tourqe converter or hydrolic kit on trans.

According to the 2001 Mercury Mountaineer owners manual :

The fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is in the front passenger

footwell , by the kick panel

I believe it is ( 21 gallons , U.S. )

I'm not a mechanic / technician but when your engine turns over but doesn't

fire it's either not getting fuel or spark ( or air assuming that no one has

shoved bananas in your exhaust tail pipe ) I would start with the basics , on

the fuel side is there a fuel reset light lit up in your gauge cluster when you try

to start the Mountaineer ( if so , the fuel pump inertia switch has been tripped

the switch is located in the front passenger footwell behind or by the kick

panel ) or it could be the fuel pump fuse , relay . or the actual fuel pump .

As I said I'm not a mechanic / technician so if it is anything on the spark

side I would have it taken to a professional

in the trunk

If your vehicle has 4 wheel drive, then yes, it has a differential in the front axle.

The spark plug firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

On your 1999 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 liter V8 the coil pack towers are :

The only foolproof way is to remove the bearing and look see. If while driving down the road you hear the bearing, and if you swerve left and right and the noise disappears for a second it is probably bad.

If it is a tuned port injected motor, it is under the plenum. The plenum is the big grey aluminum box with 8 funny looking pipes, called runners, connected to it.

The oil pump is bolted to the bottom of the engine INSIDE the oil pan

You have to pull the bearing assembly out. Be careful and do not let the cap covering the bearings come off.

You can take the front drive shaft out and it will run on the rear wheels making it 2 wheel drive.but i have done this and the truck does not get any better gas mileage and it handles like crap in the winter without the all while drive running. I had recently put the front shaft back in and the truck runs much better.also for the future you should have the same tires front and back with the all wheel drive its less friction on the axel's and will last much longer.

I am pretty sure that it is non existent, i have a 99 mountaineer and it is AWD and i am going to assume that yours has either FWD or AWD which means it has a transmission and a transfer case not a transaxle

you have 4 o2 sensors on the 2002 mountaineer. if you get under the car and look at the exhaust pipe where it goes up either side of the engine you will see it bolted into the exhaust, it has wires coming from it. they are the front 2, the rear 2 are about 2 feet farther to the rear (easier to see)

Could be a leaking vacuum line or with the pcv valve. It is possible that the trannsmission clutch packs arent dissengaging properly causing it to stall. PCV valve is a likely culpret with idle and stalling issues. Start there first.
