There are a couple of reasons why a 1993 Mercury Villager is hard to shift. One reason could be a gear shift cable. Another reason could be low transmission fluid.

The DRL system does not need to be "activated", it is automatic and turns the lights on at reduced power whenever the engine is running with the park brake off. If the lights you are looking at are down low in the bumper at each corner, these are fog lights. There is a switch just below the headlight switch. Some Mercury models required you to pull out on the headlight switch. Check the owners' manual for proper operation.

the clutch is really easy to install and the timing belt is not a problem if its shot

The 1993 Geo Storm is not an interference motor, because my belt just broke,(Nov 2005) and I got the same question answered on the following website: "www.nutzandboltz.org". My daughter's 1990 Geo Storm timing belt broke while she was driving it. She tried to start the engine but it would not run. We were told that it was an interference motor and that the motor was now shot. Being a little skeptical of the "experts" I put a new timing belt on and the engine started and has run fine for several months (clutch just went out). So much for the experts, by the way how ard is it to change the clutch? Thanks M in Omaha

Yes, I replaced mine several years ago after it leaked (on the freeway, of course!). It took several hours to remove the dashboard, starting with the steering wheel, then many electrical connectors and several screws. It's not brain surgery, but it does take some time. I left the screws on the floor right below where they came from so I wouldn't mix them up. Also, I believe I took out the seats first so I could fit in. I'm 6'2" and there's not a lot of room to work.

The correct size is listed on the driver's door post. It is either 205/75-15 or 215/70-15. Both sizes came on this model.

Because of the complexity of this operation, it is strongly suggested that you consult a repair manual, or take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic. Changing the timing belt will require a substantial amount of disassembly and 4-6 hours of time. It will also require the fabrication or purchase of a special tool to hold the crankshaft in order to remove the pulley nut, or else you will need a very strong air ratchet wrench to knock it loose. You will need to remove all the drive belts, the A/C belt tensioner, any hose that's in the way, and raise the vehicle, remove the right wheel, inner splash guards, crankshaft pulley, timing cover, and tensioner to remove the belt. This is a good time to replace the water pump as it's driven by the timing belt. The timing marks in the sprockets must line up exactly with the marks on the belt, and this can be difficult to do, since the cams will want to rotate out of position due to the pressure of the valve springs.

There is no reset for the fuel gauge. The sending unit in the fuel tank has probably failed.

The 1996 Mercury Villager modulator valve can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The modulator valve will be on the passenger side of the firewall.

There are a total of 3, or 4, if you include the rear cradle mount.

If the cruise control is not working on a 1993 Villager GS with 199,000 miles, the problem could be the MAP sensor. It could also be an oxygen sensor that is bad. There is also a possibility that the unit's main fuse is blown.
