How do you replace a1995 mercury villager CV axle?

First you need to loosen the CV shaft nut with the car on the ground in park. You need to raise the car, remove the wheel, unbolt the strut through bolts on the spindle, unbolt and separate the lower ball joint, unbolt and separate the tie rod end stud, remove the caliper from the spindle, and tap the CV shaft back so it's loose in the spindle. Move the spindle assembly back and free from the CV shaft. If it's the left CV shaft you can now pry it out of the transmission housing, it will just pop out. If it's the right CV shaft, you will need to remove the three bolts holding it to the carrier bearing bracket, then pull it out.

What is POWER E-AT button for on 1993 Mercury Villager Van dash?

E-AT. Electronic Automatic Transmission. Usually turned off for normal driving. However, you may want to turn it on when driving in steeper hilly areas (Pittsburgh comes to mind). Engaging this system tells the computer to allow the transmission to shift at a lower engine speed thereby helping to maintain better power for climbing hills.

Why would the automatic seat belt on a 1995 Mercury Villager not move the sealt belt but the motor keeps going and will not shut off?

There is a flat belt that moves the seatbelt holder. This belt has indentations on it that mate with a gear that is driven by the motor. Those indentations tend to wear out and cause the belt to not move or get stuck in the motor gearbox. The motor and gearbox are located at the lower end of the center collumn. If the belt is not moving through the gearbox it does not send the seatbelt holder all the way to the front of the car where a switch is located. If the switch is not activated the motor will not shut off. You need to replace the belt. I replaced the belt on my 93 villager and it is dam expensive about 50 to 80 dollars as I remember. I was mad about that but it was not available at an auto parts dealer and the mercury dealer was my only choice. Good luck. I replaced twice the plastic pinion located on the electric motor. In both instances, the flat belt was good.

Why does my mercury villager make a loud noise when accelerating that stops when you take your foot off the pedal?

If this is a general noise, it could be the transaxle. When you are accelerating, the engine is pushing the gears, and when you let go of the pedal, the vehicle starts to shift back down. If this is an engine noise, it could be predetonation or a valve problem.

How do you change the air filter on a 2002 Mercury Villager?

This is one of the most inane questions I have seen on this board. However, here it is. Locate the filter housing right behind the battery. loosen the clips(or bolts, depending on model year) around the housing. Lift the housing and remove the filter. Feeling really stupid yet???

Where is the pcv valve on a Mercury Villager and how do you get it out?

PCV Valve!

The PCV Valve is located right beside the EGR valve (located in behind but attached to the intake manifold) and has a thick black tube connected to it, when that tube is removed, it will expose the PCV valve from there, you will have to unscrew it and replace it, then re connect the hose and start it up! Trust me it sounds a lot easier than it really is! It takes almost 90 mins to reinstall! I am not sure it will work on all Villagers!

On a 2000 Villager, the PCV valve is pressed into a rubber grommet on a 90 degree tube extension from the rear valve cover, which is then connected by a black hose to a nipple extension on the upper rear intake manifold. The way to remove it is to unbolt the bracket attached to the intake manifold holding the accelerator cable, using 'right angled' pliers to open, then push the hose clamp back from the end of the hose attached to the intake manifold, then using the angled end of a brake shoe adjusting tool to push off the hose from the nipple on the rear upper intake manifold, being careful not to break off this nipple (the upper intake manifold is molded plastic and the nipple is part of the manifold). Once this end of the hose is loose, then the PCV valve with the hose attached can be pulled out of the grommet from the valve cover end.

It helps to place a little silicone grease onto the manifold end of the hose and the base of the PCV valve that slides into the grommet for ease of future removal. Replace the hose clamp, replace the accelerator cable bracket, and you're ready to go. Make sure you do this with the engine cold, because there isn't a lot of room in the back of the engine. It took about 10-15 minutes to do it this way.

How do you change the starter on a Mercury Villager?

Disconnect the positive battery cable. Loosen the band clamps which hold the rubber air tubes to the air filter box and the intake. Remove the air filter to access bolts in the bottom of the box and remove two bolts on the engine side of the filter box and remove the box. The starter can now be seen and is just a matter of disconnecting the wires and removing the bolts.

How do you remove the rear drum on a 93 mercury villager?

The drum should come off as soon as the wheel is removed. There is nothing holding the drum in place except the wheel. If it seems stuck the brake shoes have probably worn a groove into it, and you may have to back off the brake adjuster to get it off.
