dash lights don't work, but the fues is good.

Either have the problem that is causing the light to illuminate fixed or disconnect and reconnect your battery.

If the timing belt was broken, obviously the engine would not run. If you crank the engine and the distributor does not turn, that would be a good sign.

i found out how to do it.

The screw into the exhaust pipes. One will be near the front under the front of the engine, one will be after the second converter roughly under the passenger seat.

I looked at the Mercury Villager Owner Guides from ( 1996 , 1999 , and 2002 )

With engine oil filter change :

Each Owner Guide shows ( 4.2 U.S. quarts )

I'll bet the fuel pump makes noise when the engine is running on the road too. You just can't hear it then. It's possible you have a bearing getting ready to seize up. I think I would replace the fuel pump now before it leaves you walking.

I had a similar problem that occurred during cold weather. I originally suspected the motor was getting old and was not able to contend with the *very* cold weather at the time. The belt started working again when the temps warmed up but the problem came back down the road. I popped off the cover where the manual thumbwheel is hidden (behind driver on same side) and sprayed that area with Fluid Film Lubricant. Also along the track and have not had problems since. Even throughout another *very* cold winter! I had this problem regardless of weather. It turned out to be the fuel shut off reset switch, which is located under the hood release handle on the driver's side. (red button) If I pushed this button when the door was open, the seatbelts would move forward. Eventually, I removed and then replaced this switch. They work with the switch removed.

To remove the switch, you carefully remove the trim cover by prying out two snap fittings. One is lower left and the other just below the hood release handle. The switch is held in place with two screws. Inertia Switch Repair: After removing the switch using the above instructions I held the unit upside down and sprayed a little electrical contact cleaner towards the electrical contacts. The liquid penetrated the inside of the unit and I popped the red switch open then closed a few times (using a screwdriver). Using a paper towel I wiped the excess fluid from the unit. The seat belts started to work flawlessly after the switch was installed back to original location.

Note: These instructions also apply to the Nissan Quest from the same year.

It is in the trough below the EGR and intake manifold alongside the water bypass tube. Be careful with it if you take it out as they appear to be expensive.

Power seats are usually on a breaker, not a fuse.

You may also want to consider belt tensioner,water pump, thermostat, and all other drive belts at the same time.

Either use a scan tool or unhook the battery for a minute.

When an engine turns over it IS cranking. There are many things can could keep and engine from starting, including lack of fuel, lack of ignition, broken internal parts, faulty electronics, etc. It will require experienced diagnosis to determine the cause.

On the radiator.

Should be located in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose Drain about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator Remove this housing Make note how thermostat is installed Clean both surfaces Replace thermostat and gasket Re-install housing Re-fill coolant slowly to prevent an air lock Start engine and lookd for leaks Run engine to normal operating temperature with heater on Re-check coolant level

The 2000 Mercury Villager uses a timing belt and has a non-interference engine. Which means that if the timing belt were to break that no engine damage would occur from the valves and pistons hitting each other.

The TPS is located on the back side of the throttle body. Like all other sensors on the Villager, hard to see, almost impossible to get at to replace. I would suggest obtaining a repair manual at your local parts store.

Actually it probably wasn't customised. That is how they were made. The two sides go together right at the cat converter. There is a four bolt flange at the interface between the crossover pipes and the cat.

Where is the speed sensor on a 1995 Mercury Villager I just changed mine and it is located on the top right side of the tranny. There will probably be a pair of wires and/or a speedo cable coming out of it. The vehicle needs to be raised to remove it. If you have a lift, even better, but make sure you properly raise and support it for your own safety. A single bolt holds it in, and the body of the sensor may need to be heated for removal. The detonation sensor ( knock sensor ) really cannot be checked by the home mechanic it is either good or bad. It consists of a pressure sensing piezoelectric element that converts pressure differences into electrical signals that can be read by the computer.

The type of Automatic Transmission Fluid to use is engraved into

the fluid level dipstick ( or indicated on the dipstick handle )

for the automatic transaxle ( transmission )
