The thermostat is inside the housing on the front of the engine. The housing attaches to the front of the transfer tube assembly. It is somewhat difficult to get access to with removing of a number of things. These housing use no gaskets and must be sealed with silicone.

The OBD-1 diagnostic connector is located on the back of the block beside the starter. A series of jumper wire locations are used in conjunction with watching the CHECK ENGINE light.

Unless you have a California model, the converter assembly sells in the aftermarket for about $300.

It's in the fuel tank, as on all modern cars.

If you mean the orifice tube, it is in the low pressure line. If there is a hex nut in the line, you can separate the two parts and remove the orifice tube. If there is no nut, just a crimp, the line must be cut and a repair kit installed to contain the new orifice tube.

The amount of refrigerant required for an air conditioner is always on a sticker on the unit or nearby.

I am wondering why you need to know. I have replaced the oil pan on my Mercury Village twice at a cost of 550 the first time and 600 this past week. The first time, I hit a ditch and punctured it. The last time, we don't know what happened. My mechanic says it looks like the oil pan was dragged down the highway for a few miles. We didnt' hit anything and don't know why it wore through. Is this problem typical for a Village? My wife has a Villager, the oil pan sits very low to the ground. She hit a broken off tail pipe and put a nice hole in hers. There are no known issue with the pan itself. Just very low.

Could be just the strainer, or the oil pump itself. First drop the oil pan and clean it.

But you may just want the replace the oil pump sense you've got it apart.

The timing belt is under the timing cover on the front of the engine (passenger side). Removal and replacement is a complex process which requires several specialized tools to complete properly. It requires removal of the left front wheel, fender liner, all belts, crank pulley, timing covers, upper radiator hose and crossover hose, which requires draining the cooling system, as well as removal of the a/c tensionser assembly. You will probably need to replace all the drive belts and the timing belt tensioner as well. Unless you are an experienced mechanic, I suggest taking it to a competent professional.

Open the drain plug on the passenger side of the radiator.

The Villager does not have a test port. You need to tee into the line at the fuel filter.

The Villager has a V-6 engine that has two head gaskets. Depending on which head/gasket is bad, it may be easier to remove the engine from the vehicle than try to work on it in place, since the rear head and exhaust manifold is very hard to get at. If you're going to all the trouble of doing that, it pays to have the heads carefully inspected and a valve job done, as well as replacing the timing belt and water pump while it's all apart, as this could save a lot of trouble later.

To change the thermostat on a 2002 Mercury villager, pull the hose away. If the bolts do not come off, wiggle the fitting to expose the thermostat to be able to change it.

1994 Mercury villagers come factory charged with R134a refrigerant. Vehicles built 1993 or prior were charged with R12 for note.

Tires perhaps? My 95 Villager would start vibrating right around 70 mph. When I replaced my rear tires the problem went away. The tire tech said that one of the belts had snapped in the tire. It runs great now.

Most of them have the orig locking code on a piece of tape located on the underside of the rear lift gate - most of the time just to the right of the latch. On my 1994 Villager the code is printed under the panel of the center console- where the radio,a/c,ashtray, etc. I had to remove the panel on the driver side next to the floor and it was printed on a piece of tape in there. OBD connection is usually under the dashboard to the left of the steering column.

The Villager does not use fusible links that I am aware.

This is a complex operation requiring a hydraulic press and the correct tools. While it is possible for a home mechanic to do it, it's really one of those situations where if you have to ask you probably should take it to a qualified shop. You can take the spindle assemblies off and take them to an automotive machine shop that should be able to do this for no more than $30 each. Be aware that this type of bearing can feel loose when it's off the car, it relies on the torque of the CV shaft nut to locate the components.
