The same as any other car. You must remove the heads. This is a major repair that should only be attempted by someone with the knowledge, tools, and skill.

Have you checked the rear hatch glass ?? Open it and reclose it firmly.

My name is Gary and I am a ASE certified master mechanic in both truck and auto. In the past year I have had two 1993 Mercury Villagers with broken crankshafts. The break is about 2 1/2 inches from the front of the crank. You can just replace the crankshaft with a crank kit(http://www.rpmmachine.com/crankshaftkitsnissanmenu.html), but this still requires you to pull the engine and you need some mechanical skills to complete the job correctly. In the two cases I had, it was cheaper to replace the engine with a low mileage used engine. I used engines out of two 1995 Nissan Pathfinders. The cost was about $500 for the engine and you have to strip it down to the block and heads and change over all the components. This is a lot of work, but if you have the capabilities it will save you a lot of money.

SGS is second gear start and in icy or snowy weather it is safer to start out with the light on the button so as to take off in second and allow for more traction OK I CALL Chevrolet Detroit, MI 1-800-222-1020 AND THEY DON'T HAVE THAT INFORMATION SO THEY LOOK UP UNDER MY ZIP CODE AND THEY CALL THE SERVICE DEALER IN MY AREA FOR A CHEVY/CAMARO 97 AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER, I'M SURCHING FOR MORE INFO AND I WILL KEEP TRIYNG, DUE TO THAT I NEED TO KNOW AS WELL...SAVE YOU SOME TIME ON A PHONE CALLS.... Ok I got it after few more calls I got the Answer and is: " Second Gear Start" now for what this is for? is my next project, but hey! we know what it means... I have a camaro guru who hooks me up with all the info...he says it is second gear start, for improved handling, (traction control)

If it jumped a tooth, your car would be running very rough. You would not have much for acceleration, and your gas mileage will drop dramatically.

If your timing belt is broken, your car will not run at all.

on the transmission between the firewall and motor on top of transmission a few inches from where the half shaft goes into the transmission. if it goes bad it could cause bad shifting of trans, i replaced mine and it was a pain to get out but my transmission problems went away instantly

to remove ball joint, take cotter pin out undoe nut hit side of ball part of ball joint with a heavy hammer, the ball joint will loosen. f ball on botton side , when hit with hammer it will just fall out then then unscrew othe end if tie rog end, make sure you count the number of turns to unscrew it to replace wind new one back on same number of turns and then continue opposite of removing, except you wont need a hammer if done right you will not need a front end alignmant

I have replaced a non-powered antenna on a 1997 Mercury Villager - I assume they are the same.

1) Jack up the front passenger size of the car.

2) Remove the tire.

3) You can now remove the wheel-well. There are a set or screws around the wheel, and there are blind expansion pins on the inside. To remove the blind expansion pins push the inner pin through then pry the outer hold-down head off.

4) After removing the wheel-well you will see (or feel) the antenna assembly. There is one bolt that you can now reach that holds the unit in at the bottom. At the top the unit is held to the fender with a large ring that can be unscrewed.

I never figured out how to remove the antenna wire that ran to the antenna, so I stripped the wire and spliced in the wire to the new antenna.

Reverse procedure to re-assemble.

There are bushings located underneath most of the vehicles. Bushings are rubber inserts that resist the shock of the driven surface. These rubber pieces are found on all the suspension components of the vehicle.

Low coolant?

Bad thermostat?

Heater core plugged or airbound?

Heat control cable not working?

Normally it is not the swaybar itself but the bushings. You have a set of two on each side of the car, an upper and lower. Fairly easy to do. About 8 bucks for each set.

According to the 1998 Mercury Villager Owner Guide ( 5W-30 ) is the

preferred oil

I'm not aware of such a part. Chime and warning functions related to the seat belts are controlled by the SEC/timer module under the dash, which is piggybacked to the TCM bracket.

There is a tool made for that specific problem. Check with your local parts house.

My 1996 mercury villager runs well, but has a very annoying problem in the winter. I live in Michigan and after sitting all night out in the cold, it starts fine, but is stuck in park. The owners manual gives a note that states the fuse might be blown, and your brake lights are also not working when this happens... Not my case... brake lights and fuses are fine... there solution to getting it out of park does not work. What does work is to let the vehicle run for about 10 minutes and then surprise! It now releases from Park!! Yes I have my foot on the brake... I have had the brake lines completely flushed as per one mechanics suggestion. I have had it suggested by one person that the check valve near the power booster may not be working correctly?? Or that there is a vacuum leak in or near the power booster??? We like the van otherwise (minus a few electrical quirks -- usually the stuff made by Ford..) This problem of being stuck in park only happens in the cold weather.... Never in warm weather.. Anybody know how to fix this?? Suggestions appreciated.

The third brake light cover just has two screws that have to be removed. Then you can pull the unit out and turn the light socket to remove it from the cover. Pull the bulb straight out of the holder and replace. On the side lights you have to open the tail gate and remove the screws on the inside of the doorjam. After that the lens pulls straight out(like your light is backing away from your van.)There are three pins in rubber sockets that hold the lens in place and prevents raddles. The pins just pop in and out but can fight you a little, just be careful to not break the pins off. Once the cover is off, twist off the desired socket and pull the bulb out, replace the bulb and reinstall the cover. Hope this helps. -JB

Flasher modules are normally near the fuses in the fuse box.

Under the dash to the right of the steering column.

It's on the end of the fuel rail near where the fuel lines attach.

The crankshaft position sensor is at the rear of the engine where it joins with the transmission bellhousing. It is at the left (front) side, not far from the starter.

The 1995 Mercury link connection is located on the bottom of the dashboard. The link connection will be on the passenger side of the dashboard.
