Pitzer places low emphasis on standardized test scores--in fact, it's part of the "SAT-optional" movement, meaning you don't need to take the SAT at all! Less than half of applying students don't submit their scores, though, so if it's good, definitely submit. The average critical reading score is in the high 600's, while the math is in the mid-600's. A high GPA will definitely help in the admission process (the average admitted last year was a 3.6) but NYU also looks at SAT I/II, ACT, and/or AP scores, and essays. They use the Common Application, so a general essay needs to be submitted and NYU also asks for many short creative supplement essays. Also, as with any college, NYU looks for well rounded, involved students, so extracurricular activities and volunteer work are also considered greatly.

UPenn, an Ivy League school, is a bit more difficult to be accepted to than NYU, a top-tier institution. Mediocre grades will get you into neither, but since you're still only a soph, all is not lost. Buckle down and pick up that GPA. Prepare for the SATs, and make sure you take all the subject SAT II exams for which you are prepared. The more, the better.
