The 2012 Nissan Maxima has 55.1 in. of rear shoulder room.

The answer is this: What's the point? To look cool? Are you going to upgrade your braking system to compensate for the additional rotational force created by the larger wheels? If not, don't bother. You could have the factory wheels polished to a high lustre instead. This will look good and also set you apart since EVERYONE has "custom" wheels on their car. Either way, the braking system is the part of this equation you need to consider most of all. Go to maxima.org. Lots of info there. In answer to your question, yes, you can put 19" rims on your maxima, but you may have issues with your tires rubbing when going over bumps. Also, maxima's have a HUGE gap between the wheels and fender. This becomes more noticeable with larger rims and will make your car look like a 4x4 truck. From my experience, maxima's look best with 17" - 18" rims. Over 18" and you may have fitment issues. My advice (I have a 1995 Maxima on 17" rims): 1) First get some quality lowering springs. They cost about $180 for Tein H-techs or H&R sport springs. I highly recommend those two models. I have the Tein H-techs on my car. These give you reasonable ride comfort and lower your car about 1.6". Trust me, you will look like a 4x4 if you don't drop your car a little before getting bigger rims. 2) Get some 17" or 18" rims. Keep your rim width between 7 and 7.5 inches. If you go wider, you may have issues with the tires rubbing against the fenders over bumps. Make sure you get the right "offset" for those rims! If the offset is incorrect, you may be able to get "spacers" to make them fit correctly. 3) Get your car realigned after you get your rims and springs on. you can fit 20s easily. but with possible probs with cv joints 19s are an odd number though why 19s?

The fuel filter for a 1994 Nissan Maxima is located under the hood inside the engine bay and it is clipped to the firewall. It should be pretty easy to locate if you have any trouble just let me know and I can provide more of a description.

normally they are located on the exhaust. you may have three. on the manifold and on the exhaust pipe itself...

if it is bad or bent, the following may happen; tire wear, inability to align vehicle, added stress on other suspension parts. vehicle may be harder to control because suspension geometry is off. worse case, it seperates from car and cause major damage. not likely, but possibility.

There are a number of reasons why a car would idle find but sputter when you accelerate. It could need a new spark plugs. You may also have to replace the filters. It might also be an issue with the air flow.

The maximas have a single piston caliper which needs to be removed. It is held there by 2 bolts accessible form the engine side if you are looking at it from the wheel side. So remove the wheel and make sure that the car is properly supported. I usually put the tire right below the wheel arm to give extra backup support - just in case.

FRONT AXLE

Now take a ratched wrench and unscrwe the bolts. They turn counterclockwise if you are looking at the bolt - so if you are in front where the tire mounts it would be the opposite direction of turn.

Anyhow when removing the second bolt carefully take the caliper off - you will notice that there is a rubber hose. DO NOT dangle the calier on this!! Support the caliper making sure that the rubber hose is NOT being stressed.

Now carefully remove the pads (here we are discussing the FRONT of the car) you may need a screwdriver, being careful not to score the rotor.

Depending on pad kit that you have ont he car now, it may have some metal backing. Check to see if you have a new backing plate. Remove the front facing and the rear facing pads. Note that one of them has a metal "noise maker" perpendicular to the pad braking face. This should squeel when it touches the rotor indicating that you MUST replace them pads ASAP.

Now you need to carefully put the NEW pads in, with their backing plate(s) into the slot (which you will see). Also you may receive (or should have) a high temperature grease with which you have to carefully wioth a finger tip grease the moving metal parts = DO NOT get any of this grease on the rotor!!! If you accidentally do then you MUST wipe it CLEAN with a dry cloth!!!!

The next step is to push the piston bak into the caliper. There are inexpensive piston pushers which are really very helpful. BTW - before starting this you should have checked the brake fluid reservoir. Many "dumb" service folks add fluid - they should never add fluid if level is above the minimum level. The reason is that the excess fluid will be forced back into the the reservoir and may overflow!!!

Once you got the piston back into its zero position then carefully place the caliper back over the the two brake pads. WARNING - most maximas have two small metal springs that push the pads away from the rotor face. These must be properly inserted before the caliper is reattached.

The socket where the caliper bolts go into have movement and it may need to be pushed towards you to get the caliper onto its correct position. Further on the same piece there is a cut washer that needs to fit, by rotating it a bit, to make the caliper assembly fit on correctly.

Once you have this put the screws back in and tighten the screw using a rubber hammer.

By hand you should be able to rotate the wheel it the car is in neutral (make sure there are chocks under the rear wheel)

Also you should be able to move the whole caliper assembly by hand in out a few millimeters.

Now you are ready to put the tire back on.

Repeat the same process for the other side of the smae axle.

REAR axle

Smae process as front except that you need to buy a piston rotating tool (about $5 or so) it is a little rectangle with 2 and/or 4 little knobs) that fit into a 1/4 ratche extension. (These are universal ones - so there are six faces on them with the ratches extension hole in the center) Any car part store will have these.

They disassemble the same way. EXCEPT that the rear wheels have the parking brake attachment. Its OK, just usign this tool you will have to rotate the piston (they have like 4 little holes - into whoch those 4 little knobules fit) Find the correct face to make sure it fits. Then use the ratchet to turn the piston in clockwise until it does not rotate any more. Careful it has a rubber cover and sometimes the rubber will /should rotate while you rotate the piston back into its original place. Reassemble the whole thing (as per the front). Making sure that the wheels rotate freely (having the parking brake OFF).

The rear wheel will adjust itself when going backwards and stepping on the brake.

Remember to check the brake fluid reservoir, it should be at the maximum level now!.

Good quality brake pads can be had for about $35 (like Bendix).-)

I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS with 270,000 and still consistently average 18-20 mpg

I have 2005 Nissan Maxima and the transmission started slipping at 20 mph. The dealership told me that tranny is bulletproof, it might be something else wrong with the car but a local tranny shop told me that in will need to be replaced. It is in the fuel tank. It was relocated there for the 5th generation cars, and Nissan listed it as 'non-serviceable' in the Maxima and Infinity I35 (mechanically identical cousin.) Some owners claim to have replaced it with a high degree of expertise, but is not recommended for those unfamiliar.

* Disconnect the negative battery cable * At the bottomof the door panel remove the two screws * Pry up at the front edge of the power window switch pod and lift it out then unplug the electrical connector * Remove the inside door handle escutcheon * Remove the screw in the door pull pocket * Pull the door panel away from the door far enough to disconnect the electrical connectors

* Disconnect negative battery cable * Drain the cooling system save coolant if newer * Remove the drivebelts * On SOHC engines immobilize the water pump pulley with a strap wrench,remove the pulley bolts and pulley.Remove the crankshaft pulley and timing belt covers * On DOHC engines remove the drivebelt ilder pulley bracket and the right side engine mount and brackets.Also remove the main timing chain tensioner cover and the water pump cover from the front timing chain cover.Press the timing chain tensioner piston inward and insert an appropriate size pin into the tensioner hole to lock the tensioner in place.Rotate the crankshaft 20 degrees counterclockwise to loosen the chain around the water pump sprocket * Remove the bolts and detach the water pump from the engine

Hello, I saw your post on how to replace The Timing Chain Tensioner on an 04 Maxima. I have an 02 with the same engine. I just replaced the tensioner today...Took me 4 hours, I was very nervous. The chain tensioner is located on the left side(passenger side) of the engine. There's a cover just to the side/below the Passenger side motor mount. There are 3 bolts. In order to make it just a bit easier to access the cover, you should move the power steering reservoir and hose to the top of the engine. After I removed the 3 bolts, I had to pry off the cover(it had gasket sealant) and then I found the chain tensioner. There are two bolts holding the tensioner in place. I removed the lower bolt first, then removed the upper bolt. You're normally supposed to push the tensioner guide back and put a pin in the hole....My tensioner was so worn out, It came out in one piece. After pulling it out, I had to install the new one. I used a coat hanger to grab the timing chain guide and to keep pressure on the chain itself. Eventually i found the holes for the screw, I installed the tensioner, after tightening both bolts, I pulled the pin out and the tensioner spring loaded into place. It worked very well after that. Good luck! Pace yourself! it's a good afternoon job! but it'll save you a ton in money!

it is only the drivers side wiper that is having the problem it works randomly but does not go all the way across the windshiled when it does work. The passenger side windshield wiper works fine.

It is located in the top of the motor with a rubber tube/hose going to the air cleaner I believe.

Not Prestone. Get the NISSAN anti-freeze. [Prestone is high-silica anti-freeze and different from what the Japanese use on their cars.]

Pull the cover off of the fuse box and look for the location on the diagram.
