I would look for alternator loose wires, broken wires, and/or have the alternator tested. Be sure to disconnect the battery before doing ANY servicing. A bad voltage regulator inside the alternator could be a problem. If it were not charging the battery at all by now you would have gotten a dead battery. If the vehicle battery is also worn out or bad, you could be getting the same results, in which case you need to have your battery tested as well.

Does the Alternator have a power supply back from the battery to excite the alternator? I had the same problem and despite trying several alternators found that a fuse had blown on the circuit bring power back from the battery. Or the bushes in the alternator could be worn out or the diode pack could be shot. Put a volt meter onto the small wire on the alternator and across to the vehicle body you should have battery voltage on this terminal.

GM has been putting their filters facing the front of the vehicle, so it may be about the middle of the engine from front to back, and you can only get at from under the vehicle, and it probably tucked up in amounst hoses, lines or other equipment where you have to place yourself in probably only one place where you can even see it.

If you are talking about the low pressure side recharge valve for the A/C system it is sort of low along side of the engine next to the radiator. It will be a fitting attached to a steel line that has a plastic cap on it that must be removed in order to put freon into the A/C system. It is called the low pressure side because it means it is on the suction side of the A/C compreesor (there fore low pressure) you never add freon to the high pressure (discharge side) of the system. This recharging is supposed to be done by service people with the correct knowledge and the equipment to prevent leakage of freon( one of the ozon depleating gases) to the atmosphere.
