Why secularism is important for a democratic country?
In a democratic country like India, with its multi lingual and multi racial character, secularism is the best option. Under secularism, right to practice religious rituals by peoples from all religions is allowed to exercise without any obstacle or hindrance. Whereas in autocracy, right to religious practice is curtailed specially for the minority communities. Even in Government services, college, university admission, there is reservation for minority community candidates. There is no discrimination of any sort on religious grounds. In view of the above, secularism is vital for a democratic country.
Did machaut write secular music?
No he was actually a leader in the new art at the time called "Ars Nova." While yes he is very well known for his sacred music he wrote many poems about a woman that he loved very much and she loved him, but sadly she was to young for him and it was unable to work out. He wrote many poems and set them to music and they were about this love that he had. one in particular that is worth mentioning is Puis Qu'en Oublis. It means, Since I Am Forgotten by You. It is a sad song but worth listening to especially because of its harmony and dissonance, which is unheard of in the times he was writing this in the mid 1300's.
Constantine I (or the Great) supported Christianity. He promoted Christians in the imperial bureaucracy, introduced some laws which favoured the Christians, built some important Christian churches and tried to arbitrate between disputes between rival Christian doctrines by summoning synods ecumenical councils. However, he did not hold any religious authority. Moreover, besides supporting the Christians, he also promoted the worship of Sol Invictus (the Unconquered Sun) a pagan god.
Some two hundred year later the Byzantine emperors, beginning with Justinian I (or the Great), became the supreme authority of the Eastern Christian Church (later it became known the Orthodox Church), which was the official church of this empire, as well as the supreme political authority of the empire.
The late 19th century/early 20th century German sociologist Max Weber used the term Caesaropapism. He defined "a secular, caesaropapist ruler ... [as someone who] exercises supreme authority in ecclesiastic matters by virtue of his autonomous legitimacy". In Weber's political sociology, caesaropapism entails "the complete subordination of priests to secular power." The term relates to any such situation, not just that of the Byzantine Empire.
What does the notation of the secular songs of the Middle Ages not indicate?

How did the Church gain secular power?
From a structural standpoint, the Catholic Church acted as a very influential sovereign power and authority in Europe up until and through the protestant reformation in the 1500's. The Pope was an incredibly powerful political figure that could threaten entire nations with excommunication should they not bend to his will, believed by many to be the very intention of Christ Himself.
It is interesting when you examine the spread of religion throughout the world. Until the middle of the second millennium, Christianity had some serious competition from Muslims, Buddhists, and Jews. Something happened in the middle of the second millennium, which gave Christianity a decided advantage over these other religions, one that would forever change the shape of western society, and of the world.
When European empires began sending ships around the world to explore, conquer and set up trade, they didn't just send exploratory vessels. They sent ships with priests, and men with guns. They way it worked was simple. The priests would come, and spread the teachings of Christ. When there was sufficient divisiveness among the target population, then men with guns would come and the society would fall very easily.

The initiated masses would be represented by the mouth of the funnel.

What are the differences between atheism humanism and secular humanism?
Humanists believe that the way in which one lives one's life should be dictated by common human principles and reasoning, and that one's actions should be directed toward the betterment of mankind, independent of any religion.
Atheists believe that there is no God, and therefore (by extension) that how one lives one's life must be dictated by secular (or non-theistic spiritual) principles instead of rules handed down by some deity. Atheists are often humanists of some form, but do not necessarily have to be (many sociopaths, for example, are atheists but are also definitely not humanists)
Agnostics do not claim to know whether God does or does not exist: there may be some deity or there may not be. Humanist agnostics go one step further to claim that they do not know whether God does or does not exist, but the question also should not matter in how one lives one's life (that it should be lived by humanist principles in either case).
So in summary, an atheist believes there is no God (and believes that is an important distinction to make). A humanist agnostic believes he/she doesn't know whether there is, but that it shouldn't matter in any case.
How do secular humanists view family?
Most Secular Humanists and other Atheists view family as one of the key institutions to creating a functional society and engendering peace and tranquility among people. Family bonds are based in love, trust, hope, and reciprocal good treatment. These are things worth nourishing and protecting. However, Secular Humanists and other Atheists see families as worthy of dissolution in those cases where family members cannot, after persistent attempts, have a cordial or functional relationship. They support divorce or estrangement in these unfortunate circumstances.
No. The United Kingdom has the Anglican Church as the official national religion. What is the Name of the supreme secular court of Roman Catholic Church?
Unfortunately there is no Secular Court in the Roman Catholic religion. All courts or legal issues are decided under the auspices of canon law. Secular issues are left to the jurisdiction of the various governments that the church interacts and lives with.
The most senior ecclesiastical court is he Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) (Congregatio pro Doctrina Fidei), previously known as the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition, and sometimes simply called the Holy Office. This is the oldest of the nine congregations of the Roman Curia. Among the most active of these major Curial departments, it oversees Catholic doctrine. The CDF is the modern name for what used to be the Holy Office of the Inquisition.
The term 'Secular Jew' is not strictly defined, but refers to Jews who maintain cultural links but do not follow religious observances. Many Jewish Israelis feel that being Israeli and speaking Hebrew are in themselves a sufficient expression of Judaism without any religious observances. A Central Bureau of Statistics survey in Israel has shown that 44 per cent of Jews in the country over the age of 20 define themselves as 'secular'. Secular Judaism is interpreted slightly differently amongst diaspora Jews, where some 'Secular Jews' continue to follow nominal religious traditions.
The main "belief", if you like, of secularism is that all religions are equal and that moral, logical, reasonable judgments and opinions made in the interest of law should not be affected by religious doctrine but by the morality, logic and reason of those involved in the decision. The main purpose for having a country, state, society, etc. as being secular is that nobody can be persecuted for their beliefs or their belief system. It is a fairer system that is nearly always abused. For instance, in the USA, it is political suicide to announce that one is not a Christian and expressing any opinion not heard in Sunday mass seems blasphemous to the Senate.
Secularism is not a "modern" movement but is a necessary ideal for any multicultural society.
What is the secular view of homosexuality?
Secular humanists view sexuality as a part of human life, not subject to the arbitrary demands of an imaginary deity or the control of government.
This does not mean that secular humanists are necessarily promiscuous. There are perfectly practical reasons to exercise caution about sex, since there are real dangers in the form of sexually transmitted disease, unwanted pregnancy, jealousy or other emotional problems, child support payments, etc.
Like most secular activities altruism, not morality , is the guiding principle in play. Self determined control is the important issue. This precludes the control of sexuality among consenting responsible adults based on "standards of morality" or government regulation.
