Who made an old 22 with Ranger 10116 stamped at the stock end of the barrel and can you get parts?
Proofhouse.com has a store brand chart that might help. Try gun shops, gun shows, e-gunparts.com and want ads for parts
Since two world wars destroyed many records in Belgium, not much detailed information will be available. Pieper made thousands (maybe millions) of very inexpensive "hardware store guns", a few special-order custom shotguns, and all qualities between. The Wilmot trade name would have been made for export to the US, but I have not connected it to any particular retailer.

I have a 16 guage Excel single shot. At the base of the trigger guard is the # 90425XG. It was given to my father-in-law about 70 years ago. Other than that I don't know the exact age of the gun. -- Montgomery Wards -- EXCEL was a trade name used by Montgomer Wards on shotguns they retailed c.1900-1920. Some of the shotguns were made by Iver Johnson, some were sold to Wards by H&D Folsom (and were probably Crescent manufacture).

Elgin Arms Co was a trade name used by a Chicago hardware/catalog store. The shotguns were sold to them by the HD Folsom Co. The actual manufacturer may have been Crescent, most were, but could have been any of a number of other manufacturers. sales@countrygunsmith.net
No. This was a hardware-store brand (Keen Kutter) which could have been made by any number of manufacturers including Stevens, Crescent, H&A, etc. sales@countrygunsmith.net
What is the age and value of a Janssen Fils side by side shotgun with 90197 on the breech?
I suspect this is a utility shotgun made in Belgium circa 1900 (+/- 15 years). Value will be determined by how nice it looks over a mantle, usually between $100 and $250. Janssen did make some higher grade pieces, so if you have fine engraving, checkering, and/or a silver plate for the owner's name, it could bring more, but not very much more.
How do you know if a Kentucky long rifle is real there's no markings?
If you mean an authentic antique, it would be by examination of the metal, tool marks, etc. Most of the originals were damascus or twist steel, which has a very unique grain or pattern in the metal.
I was at an auction in Paragould Arkansas last year. For a similar gun, I stopped biding at $500. It sold for $650. It was in very good condition. Wish I had bid more.
That was a trade bame used by Hopkins & Allen of Norwich Ct- about 100 years ago.

Will firing Bri Sabot Slugs through a rifled slug barrel damage it?
Sabot slugs are made for rifled barrels. Using regular slugs and rifled slugs over time will deposit lead in the rifling grooves inside the barrel gradually hurting your accuracy. Using the sabot slugs greatly improves accuracy making it possible to shoot accurately at 100 yards. It makes your shotgun into a rifle in a way. Hope this helps.
Does the Savage 311 have a different fixed chokes in each barrel?
Almost certainly it does. Most common would be full/modified, though some were made (I believe) in modified/improved cylinder. There have been a few that are cylinder bore right from the factory, or so I have been told. These would be "coach guns", which most often have short barrels. Choke is a relationship of the inside muzzle diameter to the inside diameter of the rest of the barrel. A choke guage, commonly found at any gun shop can give you an idea of the choking, but because it is based upon an educated guess, it is not perfect. A gunsmith can measure the inside diameters and make a determination for you, but the best way is to actually take the gun to a range and pattern it. Bear in mind that the choke is only one aspect of pattern determination... a most important aspect, but only one. Other factors are size of shot, brand of shell, type of shot, type of powder and other factors not yet well understood by man. I don't think I have ever seen a Savage/Stevens 311 that is actually marked as to what choke the barrels have. There is also the possibility that the choke(s) was modified as the 311 series has been out of production for a while now. My suggestion is to take it out and shoot it to see how it performs.
When was the first breech-loading shotgun made?
A French gunmaker by the name of LeFaucheux is usually given credit for this in the year 1851. His gun, though, was for a pinfire cartridge and not the centerfire cartridge we know today. A year or two later Charles Lancaster, a British gunmaker, had a centerfire breach-loader on the market.

How can you determine the age of a 410-44 Harrington and Richardson shotgun patented Feb 27 1900?
The short answer is you can not. There are no known company records for these guns. However, the chambering gives a clue. From about 1900 to 1915 they were chambered for 44 shot. In 1916 that changed to 410-44. Note the 44 is the 44XL / 44GG. Do NOT fire a 44-40 with a normal load in this gun. They changed the chambering again around 1920 to 410. The model 1900 and later 1905 were tremedously popular. In the course of 5 years, Harringto & Richardson had to expand the factory 3 times to meet the demand.
