Yes, you may purchase a firearm on line, without having a "gun license". HOWEVER- when a firearm is transferred across a state line, then that firearm must be received by a holder of a Federal Firearms License in your state. Translation- I have a firearm for sale, and you want to buy it. You send me payment, and a copy of the FFL from a dealer in your home state. I verify this is a valid license, and ship to that dealer. You go to the dealer, and complete the same paperwork you would complete if you were buying from that dealer. Dealer conducts a background check, complies with state laws for your state (as far as legal guns for your state, state license requirements, waiting periods, etc) When all of that is complete, you can pick up your gun.

I've seen them go in the $100 to $250 range. They are not a collectible. In fact, from all I can gather, it was probably a gun purchased at a hardware store. I understand the manufacturer was Crescent Arms out of Norwich, CT. They made a lot of guns under different names, Chatham being one of them.

Mine has more sentimental value than anything else, as it was my paternal grandfather, who was born in 1885.

It may not have one. Older, less costly guns often did not have a serial number if they were made before 1968.

Here's what little I can find in the Standard Catalog. Incorporated in 1902. Used the names Union Fire Arms, Union Arms Company, Illinois Arms Company and Bee Be Arms Company. In 1917 the company was either bought up or absorbed by Ithaca Gun Company. They manufactured slide action shotguns, hammerless doubles, a few single shot shotguns, and a couple semi-automatic pistols.

Manufactured for Belknap Hardware Co by Crescent Fire Arms sometime between 1900 and 1932. Worth about $75 if it is in shooting condition.

It was made by Crescent arms, but could be a J Stevens Arms , as Crescent was bought out about that time. Depending on the condition of the gun, it can be worth upwards of $125.00. I have one that was past down to me in good condition. I wouldn't sell it because of the sentimental value. It is one of the most accurate guns I have ever shot though. Hope this helps.
