There is a gland in the anus that holds the spray for when it is needed. The spray is not pee. It is a special oily concoction that is made for the express purpose of deterring preditors.

You may dilute the amonia in a sprayer and spray the area that the skunk frequents. Also, the cayenne pepper can be applied in additional to or in lieu of the amonia. The skunk hates both. I am not sure which last the longest.
