What waves does REM sleep have?

When awake, most people exhibit beta waves , the highest in frequency and lowest in amplitude, They are desynchronousthat is, the waves are not very consistent in their pattern. When relaxed most people exhibit alpha waves, which are slower, increase in amplitude and become more synchronous. The first stage of sleep is characterized by theta waves, which are even slower in frequency and greater in amplitude than alpha waves. Stages 1 and 2 are relatively "light" stages of sleep. A sleeper passes from the theta waves of stage 1 and 2, to the delta waves of stage 3 and 4. Delta waves are the slowest and highest amplitude brain waves. This is the deepest stage of the sleep cycle.

The next stage is REM sleep, a sleepers brain waves demonstrate characteristics that are similar to waking sleep, a combination of alpha, beta, and desynchronous waves. This is the stage of sleep most associated with dreaming.

In a normal night's sleep, a sleeper begins in stage 1, moves down through the stages, to stage 4, then back up through the stages, with the exception that stage 1 is replaced by REM, then the sleeper goes back down through the stages again. One cycle, from stage 1 to REM takes approximately ninety minutes. This cycle is repeated throughout the night, with the length of REM periods increasing, and the length of delta sleep decreasing, until during the last few cycles there is no delta sleep at all.

What is restless leg sydroms?

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) or Willis-Ekbom disease is a neurological disorder characterized by an irresistible urge to move one's body to stop uncomfortable or odd sensations.[1] It most commonly affects the legs, but can affect the arms, torso, and even phantom limbs.[2] Moving the affected body part modulates the sensations, providing temporary relief.

RLS sensations could be pain, an aching, an itching or tickling in the muscles, like "an itch you can't scratch" or an unpleasant "tickle that won't stop", or even a "crawling" feeling. The sensations typically begin or intensify during quiet wakefulness, such as when relaxing, reading, studying, or trying to sleep.[3] In addition, most individuals with RLS have limb jerking during sleep, which is an objective physiologic marker of the disorder and is associated with sleep disruption.[4] Some controversy surrounds the marketing of drug treatments for RLS. It is a "spectrum" disease with some people experiencing only a minor annoyance and others experiencing major disruption of sleep and significant impairments in quality of life

There are a variety of methods one can try if one can't sleep at night. One of the oldest methods is a glass of warm milk before bedtime. Some choose to use a sleep aid, either OTC or prescribed. One of the basic things one can try first is to try and destress from a busy day before going to sleep.
Watching movies or drink warm beverages usually do the trick ;) but next time maybe three hours before bed, exercise.. By the time you do to bed you will be tired. Also stretch before bed so you don't get any sore muscles in the morning.

Can you sprain your ankle when you are sleeping?

If you fell out of the bed in an awkward position or were sleep walking, yes, you could. The odds are very unlikely, however.

yes. you can most definitely sprain your ankle when you are sleeping. you can stretch in your sleep and stretch the ligaments to much. this however would not swell that much or even swell at all, but it will bruise and it will hurt very bad! i suggest staying off it for 3-4 weeks. if you have to go to work or to school instead of going to the ER and them telling you to just walk it off, or going to the doctors and them telling you the same thing, or having to wait a week for an appointment, just borrow some crutches from a friend or buy some at a drugstore. the same with a brace. get one that will keep your ankle in place while walking around and also when asleep. go to a local drugstore. some are great and at a low price. sprains also do not show up in x-rays, so the hospital and doctors appointments might just be a waist of your time as well as the doctor's time too, and also a missed day of work or school that could have been avoided. hope this helps.
