One night you decide to stay out with your friends until midnight and go to sleep an hour later you have broken your cycle. That's why you will feel tired the next day. Jet lag and different work shifts do this too. Your sleep pattern is unpredictable and varies in quantity and quality. This lowers your effectiveness and your attention as you are not getting a consistent quality and quantity pattern of rest.

In my opinon it would be Micro Naps, Narcolepsy, and sleepwalking. (I suffer all of these due to constant NightTerrors.)

MicroNaps- You fall asleep with out warning or control. Only last about a minute. You confuse reality and your dreams big time. Dangerous if your driving or operating machinery. (Also bad if your in Science class handling dangerous chemicals!) After affects: Anxiety and confusion.

Narcolepsy- You fall into deep sleep without warning or control for any amount of time. You sleep at odd times. Dangerous if your driving or operating machinery. After affects: Long blocks of time missing, groggyness

Sleepwalking- you walk in your sleep. Dangerous if you wander away from the safety of your house. (Really bad when you try to walk away from a convinent store with candy bars you didn't pay for...) After effects: confusion, makes you wayyy tired.

What way is the fastest way to get to sleep?

I can't really think of a TON of ways, but a couple that work for me are:

(1) imagine that you're sinking into your bed. Start with your feet and work all the way up to your head.

(2) Try counting things... It works for me sometimes.

(3) Imagine a dream you'd like to have, sometimes, you'll find yourself actually dreaming that dream!

(4) Go sit in front of something really cold, then run and get covered up, being warm helps with falling asleep.

(5) Sometimes, doing no physical activity during they day makes you not want to sleep, do a few jumping jacks or jog in place a little bit.

(6) Lay on your back.

(7) Think of a song that you know all of the words to and run them over in your head. Sometimes the reason you can't sleep is because you have to much running through your head.

(8) Don't watch a lot of violent or action-packed t.v right before you go to sleep.

(9) try drinking hot cocoa. it works for me.

(10) watch a really boring tv show/movie.

(11)imagine that your are walking around the world. imagine what places you'll see.

  • Drink ONE cup of coffee or tea -- drinking those huge cups doesn't work any better. Studies have shown all you need is one normal cup of either coffee or regular tea (not herbal).
  • Breathe! Taking deep breaths helps get more oxygen to the brain, and makes you feel more alert -- this is why we yawn.
  • Drink a glass of water! I know, it sounds weird, but it does wake you up, especially if it's cold water.
