What were some US army rifles of the 1950's?
The US M1 Garand rifle served in WWII and Korea and was replaced by the M14 Service Rifle in about 1957 and fought in only one war...Vietnam. The M14 rifle served in Vietnam all the way up to about 1968, by which time all units in Nam were using the M16 Jungle Rifle. US forces thru-out the free world retained the M14 Rifle until about 1970 or so.
The proto-types of the future M16 (called the AR-15) were developed in about 1957, but the US military didn't purchase any of them during the '50s. The M16 first went to South Vietnam as an experiment in 1961/62, then issued as a "Jungle Rifle" in 1963; then as a standard issue US Rifle by 1967/1968.
Where can you find info on a Springfield Model 1869?
There is quite a bit of information about Springfield trapdoor rifles in Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms. Model identification is a bit difficult from the dates stamped on them - if your gun is marked 1869 on the lock, it is probably a Model 1868; if it is a Model 1869, it should have a date between 1863 and 1865.

What is the history of the Springfield 20 gauge SXS?
recently inherited one of my grandfather's firearms, which is the earliest that I can recollect him carrying when I first started going along with him on his squirrel hunts. It's nothing special collector-wise, but...of immense value to me. I'd like to know what model it is, and so forth, so as to be able to obtain any parts should it be necessary, and to be able to properly document its history for my heirs. The following is taken from its entry into my firearms inventory database:
"J.Stevens/ Springfield 20 gauge side by side upland style shotgun, double triggers, synthetic brown marbled stock and forend, ramp and bead sight, dual extractor, tang safety, some casecolors remain on frame, ~45-50% barrel blueing remain, Black plastic buttplate. Said to be Modified Choke bored. This shotgun was inherited from my grandfather and grandmother’s estate in 2006. According to my father, my grandfather purchased it new circa late 1940's- early 50's. The shotgun was built before the federal requirement that firearms bear serial numbers, and it appears that it has none. However, I will detail its markings as follows:J.Stevens/ Springfield 20 gauge side by side upland style shotgun, double triggers, synthetic brown marbled stock and forend, solid rib, bead sight, dual extractor, tang safety, some casecolors remain on frame, ~45-50% barrel blueing remain, Black plastic buttplate. However, I will detail its markings as follows:
LH receiver: -SPRINGFIELD- over J.STEVENS ARMS COMPANY over CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.
Underside receiver, fwd exists a stylized symbol reminiscent of an “hourglass”
RH receiver: 5100
Left barrel chamber, top: PROOF TESTED-20 GAUGE over -2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER-
Right barrel chamber, top: SELECTED FORGED STEEL"
End quote.
As I said at the beginning, this shotgun is in my earliest hunting memories with my grandfather, who was a lifetime avid outdoorsman. I can recall when he started hunting with his "new" Winchester semiauto shotgun that my grandmother later bought for him.
I used to ask him to take the old double barrel instead, which he sometimes agreed to do. I believe that I was 6 or 7 years old at the time, which was more years ago than I care to believe!!
The shotgun does not seem to exhibit a clearcut model number other than "Springfield" and has no apparent serial number either.
My father told me that grandad bought the shotgun new in Moorefield WV, in the late 40's or early 50's. Although the choke on the shotgun barrels is not marked, he believes that they are "modified" choke. Dad says that this shotgun harvested a pickup truck load of turkeys, squirrels, pheasants, and rabbits in its day.
I've given it a cleaning and lubrication, and checked it over for function, and it appears just fine. I'll soon test fire it, and get an idea of how the barrels pattern. It is well used, but not abused, and I expect to squirrel hunt with it this fall. It's a fine family heirloom that I'm happy to have custody of.
I don't know what the numbers on the trigger are unless they are a part number, but you can add about 25% to the asking price for a single selective trigger.
All I can say about it is that you probably mis-read or mis-typed the date. 1833 is about 40 years too early for a Springfield. People at the Trapdoor Collectors site should be able to help. Check the link at the right >>>> According to the stamped plate......first line "SPRING" second line "FIELD" third line "1833" OK, you have something even older than a Springfield trapdoor. Is it percussion or flint? I have limited references on something like this, but these markings would be correct for a Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket. It wouldn't have been used in the Civil War as a flintlock, but I would imagine a lot of them were converted to percussion between 1845 and 1860. I think you may find some experts who can help at antiqueguns.com. Post as detailed a description as you can (all markings, caliber, barrel and overall length, how the barrel is attached to the stock (how many pins or bands)), in the Pre-1898 section of Ask Our Experts.
How many springfields are in America?
Who used the Henry rifle in the civil war?
Possibly 3,000 or so Henrys were actually purchased by the US Government for the US Army during the war; but usually it was wealthy Regimental Colonels that purchased Henrys for their men. And of course many officers purchased Henrys for their own use. This also applied to the Spencer repeating rifles which fed metallic cartridges thru the butt end of the stock.
Those Civil War Henrys and the Henry company of the 1860s SHOULD NOT be confused with the Henrys of today. The Henry of today was founded by an Italian immigrant who purchased the old American gun company of Iver Johnson and simply used the Henry name (patent expired) when he started the company up in 1992.

What year was the Springfield Arms Co model 50 'Springfield Jr ' 22 rifle made?
1928 to 1933 I have a Springfield arms model 50 Jr. and it needs a new bolt. Where could I find one? I also would like to know when this gun was made.
This 'Springfield' was a house brand of Stevens, and should not be confused with Springfield Armory which produced firearms for the US Military, nor the current private company 'Springfield Armory USA' which produces the M1A rifle. Your gun is one of the many variants produced under the Stevens name beween 1915 and 1940. Value of the 20ga is somewhat higher than the more common 12ga, and if in excellent original condition can approach $400-$500. sales@countrygunsmith.net
