How do you remove the overhead console in a Subaru Outback?

Pry loose the lens cover and remove the two screws underneath. Then open the sunglass cover and remove two more screws. Disconnect the wiring harness. That's it, at least for the 2001 and similar models.

What year Subaru radios fit a 1999 Subaru outback legecy?

1995-1999 Actually I believe (but have not physically verified) you can also connect some radios from 2000-2004 Outbacks - the main issue is the socket on the back of the unit that the wire harness plug plugs into.

I just bought my 99 Outback and currently have a factory P114 AM/FM/WeatherBand Cassette-only installed. I'm looking to replace it with a factory AM/FM/Cassette/CD unit (P117? 95-99 generation or P121? 00-04 generation).

I've searched www.car-part.com for local salvaged units. For 1995-99 Outbacks they list 8 different factory radio models:

CD player

AM-FM-cassette, Sdn, GT

CD changer, Limited model

AM-FM-cassette, SW, LHD, Outback

AM-FM-cassette, Sdn, SUS

AM-FM-CD-cassette

AM-FM-cassette, SW, LHD, Brighton

AM-FM-cassette, SW, RHD

CD changer, exc. Limited model

AM-FM-cassette, SW, LHD, GT

AM-FM-cassette, SW, LHD, L model

AM-FM-cassette, Sdn, L model

I am also keeping an eye on eBay auctions - I have been able to physically compare models and their socket/plugs as most auctions have pictures, which has been educational. Most units here have been tested and come with a warranty.

Also if you want to know how to rip apart, er, I mean disassemble the center console and dash to be able to remove your radio you can find instructions by Googling it

Should Automobile be fixed or replaced?

To the intelligent person, that decision should be a function of the value of the REPAIRED vehicle as compared to the projected cost of repair.

You should determine the value of the vehicle BEFORE repair, add that amount to the cost of repair and if that total is MORE than the value of the vehicle after repair, sell the vehicle without repair.

Some people have an emotional attachment to a vehicle. That changes the way you make decisions.

Subaru legacy outback 1996 at oil temp light flashing 16 times. any suggestions?

I've read many forums about this issue, and it's an electrical fault in the transmission that is throwing a code to the Transmission Control Module, which is different than the Engine Control Module. Most service shops only have a reader to read the engine computer, not the Subaru Transmission Module. Take it to a Subaru dealer who can read the Transmission Module. It could be any one or more of about 20 things that make that light do exactly that. You might want to do it soon, because it might be small, or it might be big. You can also read this site which may be able to show you how to read the code without taking it to the dealer. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-83901.html

No you don't have to , but it is a smart thing to do. It takes quite a bit to get down that far and you might as well do it as you should have around 100K on the pump when you are replacing the timing belt.

Where is the fuse for the windshield washer motor on a 2000 Subaru Outback?

On my 2001, it's behind the change drawer on the drivers side on the left. You can probably look in your manual and check the index for 'fuses'. There should be a diagram as to what controls what. There is also a diagram on the back of the drawer. Good luck!

Both Pumps (front & rear) are at the bottom front of the Reservoir. So first you have to figure out which is which. Then empty the reservoir, remove the two bolts, disconnect the pumps, pull out the hoses. Remove reservoir, pull out faulty pump from grommet. Replace pump. Installation is reverse.....

Is head gasket failure common in a 2004 Subaru Outback?

I don't know how common it is but I just took my car in as the check engine light has been coming on & off for some time. I was told I needed a new head gasket to the tune of $2400.00. I only have 85k miles on the car. I take good care of it & have regular oil changes. I think this is outrageous. If I had 185k miles maybe....
