It's the motor. I had exactly the same problem with my 2000 Avalon XLS. I thought it was the switch so I changed that first. It had no effect. After I changed the motor, everything was fine.

Find one over internet years ago and did the replacement with success, that means not a hard job. Mast base on trunk is easy to remove. Be sure to open the box, in the trunk, where plastic strip is stored, to dump broken strip and place the replacement. Trim the replacement strip gradually to the proper length by turn radio on and off and measure how it works.

I had the same problem and it was the bulb in the upper brake light in the back window.

It is probably not the sensor that is failing though. The sensor is a diode so it eats up any left over voltage in the system, so when the bulb starts failing the excess voltage triggers the warning light. Sometimes this can occur before the bulb actually goes out. So if you see the light on plan on changing it.

I had a Saab before this and it would warn you like a week before it would go out, kind of annoying but nice though cause once I figured it out I could just swing by the parts store during that week so when it did go out I was ready.

Assuming the same process as a 96 Avalon, there are two parts of the rear seat: The horizontal butt part, and the vertical back part.

There are three or four clips that hold down the front(engine side) of the butt part of the seat. Locate these clips by gently tugging at the seat lip. Once you find them, apply a moderate amount of force by pulling up on the seat lip at the location of the clip, repeat for remaining clips. Once these clips are free, the butt part of the seat should pull out of the car.

The vertical back part of the seat is removed by 4 bolts, 2 which hold down the seat belts. The bolts closest to the doors are 14mm, and the seat belts I believe are 16mm. Once all the bolts are removed, push the seat up towards the roof, and pull back. The seat should now be free.

Inside the trunk there is a trim panel that needs to be removed that covers up the taillight bolts. Remove the trim panel and then you can remove the two bolts that hold in the taillight.

Really? Why wouldnt you just google this question, and it takes 5 quarts.

worn seals on the power steering rack and pinion. In my case it was worse on the drivers side. Going rate for local mechanics to change is around $600+. For the DIY type its about $200 for rack, fluid, hoses (if needed), and tools (nothing special required). Oh yeah and about a full day to take off/put on. Then a front end alignment.

Losing oil means less of it to lubricate the valve train that the cover covers. If it leaks enough, it will reduce oil volume enough to starve other compenents. It means oil dripping down, maybe onto the exhaust manifold, where it burns and makes a bad odor and maybe a fire hazard. It drips onto the garage floor or pavement, making an unsightly potential slip hazard and pollutes groundwater.

I just had the same issue. Cost me $40.00 to find out my gas cap wasnt clicked all the way. He also said that after the error arises, simply closing the gas until it clicked may not have removed the error code from the computer. Not sure how, but you might have to reset the computer, maybe just pull the battery? Sean

It is a general warning light. It could be that the glow plugs are wearing out or something more serious. U need to read the data in a Toyota dealer. Toyota have u by the throat until the scrapyard!

Someone probably screwed up the installation. Do you feel any pulsating when you brake?

It is on the back of the fuse box. Not easy to get to but its there. Take the lower dash panel off of the driveside under the column and then remove the fuse box. Its back there, I promise, kinda a pain to get to though

Most Toyota oil lights reset as follows: 1. Crank your car and make sure odometer is set to primary mileage, it can't be on the trip odometer. 2. Turn your car off. 3. Push odometer but in fully and hold followed by turning your ignition key toward the crank position. 4. You should see the odometer or oil light start to blink and eventually go out. 5. This resets the light for another 4000 miles.
