Where is the block heater on a 1990 Toyota pickup?
Toyota pickups with the 4 cylinder engine: Look for the frost plug on the RIGHT side of the engine block near the oil filter. In order to get the frost plug out you can try the usual tap via a screwdriver or small chisel to one side to make it pivot in place, whereupon you can get a vice grips on one of the edges and pull it out, or for a no-danger removal drill a hole and pull it out via some sort of hook. IF you look at the installation instructions for the block heater they should have all this and more.

It is running lean/ not getting fuel. The carburetors have dirt in the fuel jets and that is why it won't run when choke is off. When choke is on that richins the fuel up and it try's to run. Need to clean the carbs out.

On my 88 the fuel filter is forward of the gas tank under the bed. It's very difficult to see unless you jack it up and wriggle around until you get your head in just the right place. If you can figure out how to change it without drowning in gas, please let me know.

Have you checked the gear oil level? If the level is normal, and no water in the oil - water in the oil means that bearings and seals may have rusted, and the oil turns light gray. If the oil is OK then the most likely cause is that the gearbox is very worn and needs to be repaired. also check the rear end. old oil (low oil and worn bearings cause the rear end to wine too. Take the bolt out of the back of the differential and stick your finger in ther when it's not hot. if you get oil on your finger right away there is enough, if not change the oil. recommend a 75w80 or 90 gear oil it probably holds 6 to 8 pints depending on the equipment the truck has. If the bearings are shot a new third member (differential ) runs about $250 at a salvage yard, make sure to get the right gear ratio for your application, and if it is 4x4 the front and rear must have the same ratio.

I just changed mine on my 91 Yota pickup. It is also the 22re. If you look just behind the oil filter, it is about 2 inches away. I had to take my oil filter out, but I needed to change the oil anyways :) It has a connector that you pinch and it pulls off. I then used an aligator socket because I don't have metric sockets large enough for this. Pulled the old one, put in a new one ($77 on ebay) and put it all back together. No more code 52 and the jerking I was experiencing is now gone!
