YES, YOU CAN. I hold an L1 Visa. I entered the country via JFK. CBP stamped the expiration date of my passport on the I94 (instead of the L1 Visa exp. date). I renewed my passport. In my case, as my POE was JFK, I went to the US Customes and Border Protection office in Terminal 8, first floor - Arrivals, room 11-161. This is called the Deferred Inspections Unit.
