put rear seats down turn key to 2nd position and listen for the pump to prime if it doesn't prime or you are unsure what it sounds like get a friend to listen through your gas hatch with cap removed if there is no audible noise then pump is most likely dead. Junk yards are a great way to go i pulled mine and replaced it for $15 instead if going new at $400+

Hi, You need to replace the odometer gear wheel. It is a tiny plastic gear with teeth that after years of use tends to break. It is a pain to change out but you can do it your self. Go on Ebay there is a seller that has some pretty good instructions for repacing the gear as well as price. Good luck, JQ

about 35000 miles depending on the brake materials semi metalics are good for everyday driving.

A leaky mass airflow sensor or it can be a leak in the air intake hose.

problem with emmission control, Check the Oxygen sensor

take off the hose from the turbo to intercooler and clean it .now clean hose from intercooler to inlet manafold. now you need a small hose into into right hand side ofthe intercooler push it down and see if any water mixed with oil is found and remove it .with pump you will get in a boat shop.i found this in my Volvo 940 turbo 1991 you must allso clean the crankcase breather common in most Volvo,s

The Service Reset light comes on at regular mileage points to alert you to perform

necessary maintenance to keep your Volvo 850 running properly.

When you do the work yourself the light can be reset with these instructions.

Volvo 850 (1993-1995) Service Light Reset

Under the hood there are 2 diagnostic units (labeled A and B on the cover) next to the washer reservoir.

1. Turn on the ignition and open diagnostic unit A.

2. Locate the flylead (the test wire that is in the plastic holder).

3. Insert the flylead into socket 7.

4. Press the large round test button on the diagnostic unit 4 times, briefly but firmly.

5. When the LED flashes and then stays lit, it will accept the reset code.

6. The reset code for the service light is 1-5-1.

7. Press the large round test button firmly one time and then release it. The LED should be lit.

8. Press the button firmly 5 times and then release it. The LED should be lit.

9. Press the button firmly one more time and then release it. The LED will flash several times.

10. Turn off the ignition switch and replace the flylead in its holder and close the cover.

The Service Light has now been reset.

Volvo 850 (1996-1997)

You need the OBD II reset tool. The price is approx. $150.

Or take your car to a Volvo dealership or an independent Volvo shop.

Expect to pay $50-$75.

dino oil 10-30 or 5-30 is what i use synthetic causes a lot of leaks so i steer clear of it - but that is your choice

there on one of the sides of the center console below radio you have to remove the fabric pannels close to your feet there a couple relays on both sides of this console not shure what side but its one of them

It does not have a radiator cap, you fill the radiator through the overflow/ reservoir tank located on the passanger side inner fender. It has marks on the tank to show normal fill levels (about half full is normal).

no idea whats wrong but mine does the same.... it might be the clutch or the gear box.... took mine to a Volvo dealer.. they fixed something but it still broke down again on the way home... not sure they know what they are doing.. do you have any more info ??

Sounds like your security alarm has been triggered. Take the keys out of the ignition, get our of the car, close the door and lock and unlock it WITH THE KEY. Then try starting.

96K miles or 5yrs but much better if you do at half these figures.

It means the engine has stalled and the key is on.

On the 93 it is under the hood right in front of the steering wheel.

It could be the ECU engine temp sender, if its different from the guage sender

you will need a hacksaw blade to cut the retaining loop. pull the door as far out as you can and cut the loop taking care with the dash and door vinyl. I protected mine with duct tape that I removed right away... You will need to replace both the loop and the door latch. $75 for both

On the engine.

The latch is just above the rear license plate. Reach your hand up in there and pull the handle towards you. Of course, all doors have to be unlocked for it to operate. If, by chance, you meant the front hood of the car, there's a red pull-lever near the driver's left foot that, when pulled, releases the hood latch. Then, you need to go to the front of the car and find a grey, hooked piece of plastic sticking just barely out through the grill (above the Volvo logo). Get your finger underneath that and pull towards you. It'll come out about a centimeter and, while you have it pulled out, lift up the hood.
