Where is ambient temperature sensor?

This is not a direct answer.

The ambient temp sensor location is different from car to car based on Make Model year and engine.

This sensor is located to measure the air temperature so the engine injection, anti-lock brakes, transmission shift and safety features all work.

On most Pontiac Fieros this sensor is mounted on the air cleaner and is called the "intake air temp sensor"

On many Dodge pick up trucks it is mounted in front of the radiator.

How do you open the gas tank on a 2000 S40 Volvo?

Just Push on the left hand side of the fuel door and it should open. If it is locked, open the truck and on the left hand side, just above the little storage basket there should be a silver loop. pull on it and it will unlock the fuel door and allow you to open it by pushing on the left hand side.

There is no latch or button to push to open it.

Volvo S40 idle surges when stopped?

I am in the midst of this repair myself. Oddly enough, this is caused by a faulty Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sensor. It sits right up in the front of the engine compartment, passenger side, adjacent to a coolant hose. It costs $50 for the part but the shop wanted to charge $210. It is difficult to get at but manageable. Good Luck.

How do you unlock a Volvo radio?

If the radio is showing "code", you should have a code with the paperwork for the car, if not, call a Volvo dealer and give them the vin number, they can look it up and you just enter it using the preset radio buttons. This has to be done any time you disconnect the battery for extended amount of time or remove radio. When I called the dealer to get my code, I had to fax a copy of the registration and my ID to prove I owned the car and it wasn't stolen. Just a heads up.

Dog restraint stuck in Volvo s40 belt buckle?

We have a v40 and recently tried to buy a restraint that clipped directly into the buckle of the seatbelt. I was about to pay for the device when I noticed on the back the warning "not suitable for Volvo cars". Every other buckle restraint we checked had the same warning. Apparently Volvo in their wisdom have differing seat plugs on their seat belts.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 2000 Volvo S40?

Remove the plastic cover that is to the oil filler cap, it will a torx bit. Be careful when removing the Spark plug wires the coils are connected to them and they arre bolted down. You will need a 8" extension to get the plugs out, I think you will need a 5/8 spark plug socket. Remove old plugs. gap new plugs and install in reverse as removing them.

How do you change the low beam headlight bulb on an S60 Volvo?

Courtesy of the Volvo Owner's Manual.

Low beam bulb

To remove a defective bulb:

  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Open the hood.
  • Remove the plastic cover over the bulb (1) by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Remove the connector (2).
  • Loosen the retaining spring (3) by first moving it to the right and then moving it down, out of the way.
  • Pull out the defective bulb. Note the position of the guide lug on the base of the bulb (4).

To install a new bulb:

  • Insert the new bulb, without touching the glass, with the guide lug upward (1). The bulb will only seat properly in this position.
  • Move the retaining spring up and push it slightly to the left until it seats properly (2).
  • Press the connector into place on the bulb (3).
  • Reinstall the plastic cover and turn it clockwise until it is correctly in place (4). "TOP" must be upward.

Changing the Low beam headlights on a Volvo S60 2.5T

It will take you at least one hour to complete this bulb replacement. Although the Volvo manual tell you to release the retaining spring there is no spring to release on the 2005 Volvo S60 2.5 T

First start with the driver side you will need to remove the air filter and it housing. After removing the filter pull up hard on the housing and it will release from the three snaps. This will give you easy access to the low beam headlight.

Remove the rubber cover and reach in to the cavity and turn the bulb assembly to the right a quarter turn if you are in front of the car. Gently pull the bulb out with the connecter attached. Make sure the orange gasket come out with the assembly.

Disconnect the connector from the defective bulb and connect it to the new bulb assembly. Insert the new bulb into the cavity and line up the three prongs, look thru the lens to make sure it is lined up properly then make a quarter turn to the left. Put back on the rubber cover and the filter housing.

On the passenger side all you have to remove is the rubber cover and use that same procedure to replace and replace the bulb assembly.

Why is your Volvo s40 hard to start?

Is Check engine light for maintenance required only or is there something wrong with the engine and I should not drive the car before I can get it to the dealer?

The check engine light means that there is something not going right with the engine, but it may not be serious. Take it to Auto Zone or a small shop with the capability to read out the ODBII codes rather than go to the dealer. They'll plug it in and be able to tell you what error triggered the check engine light. I've had my light come on twice, neither time was it a serious problem. The first time was due to bad fuel, the second a minor electrical short in the air intake temperature sensor.
