what do you mean by panel? if its the one in between the sun visors, pop off the cover with a flatblade screwdriver (careful not to break the plastic supports), pull out the old bulb which should be long and thin and replace it. After that then pop the cover back on and hey presto.

When your car is serviced at a non-vw garage or at home by yourslef, the ecu doesnt know its had a service, so the service indicator stays on. To reset it:

-(with the ignition off and keys out) press and hold the mile reset button

-turn ignition on

-wait until the display goes like '--'

-turn ignition off and keys out and release button

The cable is self adjusting, it usually adjusts itself when you take your foot off the pedal. If you think it has an issue step on the clutch then open the hood, you should be able to pull up on the black plastic housing of the cable one time it will have space between the bracket and the cable housing. If you try to pull up on it again it will be stuck but you can step on the clutch and then see it pull up again.

If you are having other problems like you have allowed the cable to expand while doing a repair, then I believe you will need a new one as I have never gotten one to adjust back in after it extends all the way to the end of its limit.
