Probably because Winchester never changed the Model number except by dropping the '18' around 1915. Sort of like having a Ford Mustang. A 1965 model and a 2005 model are both Mustangs, but they're not the same.

The age of a shotgun can be determined by referencing the serial number with the manufacturer's records. In this case, the Winchester Model 12 shotgun with serial number 705000 was manufactured in the early 1940s. To determine the specific model, examine the markings on the shotgun such as the barrel roll markings or receiver stampings, which will indicate the model variation.

Can an 870 slug barrel be used with a Remington Sportsman pump?
I'm not sure, but I think the sportsman has a different barrel configuration. They might be compatible, i say about a 1 in 4 chance of it working. I've never looked at a sportsman pumps barrel, but I've noticed how different model 870 barrels arent always compatible.
if the years of the barrel and sportsman are very far apart, you can lessen the chances of compatibility.
i suggest you email the Remington website and try to get a professional opinion from them.

How will the receiver on a post 64 model 94 respond to cold rust bluing?
Actual rust bluing is not a cold process. The solution is applied cold to bare metal, then the part is immersed in boiling water for about 15 minutes until a black 'crust' forms. Then the crust is carded off on a fine wire wheel leaving the rust-blue finish. Takes several applications. If you are referring to the cold-blue kits sold commercially, I dont believe you will like the results. In order to get ANY kind of decent color, the metal must be absolutely clean and oil-free. The best types we've found to use are Oxpho-Blue and Blue Wonder. They give the darkest finish without too much of the rotten-egg smell. repair@countrygunsmith.net
What is the history behind the Winchester model 67 22 rimfire?
The Winchester model 67, manufactured between 1937 and 1963 is a single-shot, bolt-action, rimfire .22 caliber rifle. The standard model bares a twenty-seven-inch tapered "sporter" barrel. Winchester also offered a "boys" model, with a twenty-five-inch barrel, for youngsters. The model 67 is capable of firing any .22 short, .22 long, or .22 long rifle cartridge. Approximately 383,000 of these popular rifles were produced, with only the later models (after the early 1940's) having serial numbers. The longer barrel of the standard model was a regular feature of most rimfire rifles until the 1960's. The longer barrel length was thought to be advantageous for at least three reasons. First of all, the longer sighting plane between the rear sights and the front sights aided in aiming. Secondly, the longer barrel reduces noise considerable, nearly muting the sound of standard velocity ammunition. Thirdly, before the advent of today's advanced external ballistics, it was commonly believed that a very long barrel was necessary to achieve game-killing velocities.
Was the original 30-30 butt plate and stock on pre 1500000 early model 94s crescent shaped or flat?
The original butt plate and stock on pre-serial number 1500000 early model 94s were crescent-shaped. This style was common on Winchester Model 1894 rifles manufactured during that time period.
This rifle does not have a automatic de cocker so if the firing pin makes contact with the round without pulling the trigger you have an issue with the sear inside the bolt. Please take it to a competent gunsmith for the needed repairs. It is very dangerous to continue to use this rifle in it's current condition.
The Winchester model 59 is not a gas operated semi-auto, instead it uses the short recoil system and hence their is no adjustment. The model 59 should be able to shoot trap loads without any adjustment if working properly.
You have refered to the firearm as a Mod 94, I will assume the the barrel markings is "MODEL 1894" and not "MODEL 94" as this would imply a manufacturing date after the mid 1920's. Are you sure that the tang sight is original, as this would add the the value if it is. A plain Jane Saddle Ring Carbine fron that era in "new in box" condition could bring upwards $2000 if you find the right collector. A well worn one with little or none of its original finish left $350 to $400. These values assume the gun is in good working condition. Extras such as checkering, engraving, or high grade wood can add quite a bit to its value. Concerning the compass, in spite of the fact that in that era Winchester was much more agreeable to special orders or modifications I'm suspicious that that compass inletted into the stock is not original. If I'm correct it would detract considerable fron a high grade firearms value.
To add to this conversation, I am in possession of a Model 1894 carbine manufactured in the '20s as well. My rifle also has the 1/2" brass compass inset into the stock on the right side. Based on this coincidence, I am inclined to believe that this a factory option and not a user added feature.

What is the value of a 30-30 Winchester Model 94 with a 36 inch octagon barrel and gold plating?
I'm fairly certain that you mean a 26" barrel.I know of no 36 " ones ever produced. I'll assume that the gold plating is on the receiver and not the barrel. If there is no medallion in the stock, it more than likely is a Centennial 66 Century of leadership....If new in box, unfired, the value is approx. $450-$500 est.

There are several possible causes for the failure to fire. When this happens, inspect the cartridge. If there is a strong indentation which should have ignited the primer, then change ammunition. Also, inspect the chamber area where the firing pin lands. If there is a large indentation at the rim of the chamber which could be caused by dry firing, then the cartridge is not properly supported and the firing pin is not crushing the rim of the cartridge, setting off the primng compound. Correcting this problem requires replacing the metal at the rim of the chamber and there are a couple of methods to do this. If there is no indentation or only a light one, inspect the firing pin for damage and proper protrusion. The tip may be broken or the firing pin may not be moving freely in its well. Clean and repair as necessary. The hammer spring may be weak and not striking the firing pin with sufficient force. Check it last.

No serial numbers were assigned to the model 69 and 69A. The 69 was introduced in 1935 and the 69A in 1937, so the 69 may well have been made in one of the first 3 years. Don Schimpff Redding, CA the 69a production was ceased in 1963
It all depends on the overall condition. If all original and retaining 80% of the original finish and has a good bore with no pitting. The value would be in the $1000-$1500 range. 50% condition would bring it down to the $700-$800 range. Add 20% to the above values if it was made prior to 1898.
