First, the common traits. Mexico and Canada are both North American countries, neighboring the United States of America. Also both are trade and business partners belonging to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The Quebecois population in Canada has more affinity to Mexico, as it professes the Roman Catholic religion and has a Latin-originated language (French in Quebec; Spanish in Mexico). Both countries have a rather large concentration of natural resources, but how are they exploited and by whom marks one of the greatest differences among both nations.

Now, on the differences. Mexico is a Latin American nation with a large Spanish-speaking, Roman Catholic population (Roman Catholic: 77%, Protestant: 5.2%) while Canada is an Anglo American country with a majority of English-speaking population and a more balanced mix of religions (Roman Catholic: 43% Protestant 23%). The ethnic make up of Mexico is predominantly of mestizo (60%) and Amerindian people (30%) while Canadians are predominantly Europeans (66%) and on a lesser degree, of mixed background (26%). Both Canada and Mexico are federations, but Mexico is a federal presidential republic of 31 independent states and one federal district while Canada is a parliamentary democracy with 10 provinces and 3 territories. Finally, Canada is a wealthy, resource-rich country ranking as the 14th largest economy in the world while Mexico is an emerging market which ranks on the 11th spot.

The second one is the Falkland Islands, owned by the United Kingdom (U.K)/Great Britain/England. Their capital is called Stanley. The last territory of South America is the Galapapos Archipelago. It's located off the coast of Ecuador.

Brasilia officially succeeded Rio de Janeiro as Brazil's capital city on April 21, 1960. In 1956, Juscelino Kubitschek de Olveira [September 12, 1902-August 22, 1976], who was President of Brazil, 1956-1961, ordered the building of Brasilia to fulfill an article in Brazil's constiution. Dating from 1891, the article stated that the capital should be moved from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location within the country. It took 41 months to build Brasilia, from 1956 to 1960. Brasilia officially was inaugurated as the capital on April 21, 1960.

Rio de Janeiro had been the Brazilian capital from 1793 until 1960. Salvador was the first capital, from 1549 to 1793.
