I would agree with the premise of answer #1 but not with the examples and would follow the advice of answerer #2...aroma therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture and chiropractic are now seen as viable and effective forms of aternative medicine and most are, in fact, covered by an individuals insurance. A more accurate exampe of "snake oil medicine" would be creams or lotions that promise to "totally reverse the aging process" especially when results are guaranteed by saying "after just one use"! Advertisers often market a product with "snake oil" methods by showing before and after pictures of results that are unrealistic.
Another Answer: I think a lot of legal drugs could be construed a "Snake oil". I took Lipitor and some arthritis ( Vioox, Bextra, Baycol) medications that were not any better than the snake oils of the old west. We are not given in the Bible any reference that God has given names to animals. But we see that He gave stars names in Psalms 147:4 "He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names." So it's possible that God gave all the creatures a name, but we don't know that for sure.
We do know that God let the man name the creatures He made. Genesis 2:19 "And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof."
Are there poisonous snakes in Nebraska?
Yes! Prairie rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis). As the name indicates, this rattlesnake lives in grassland areas of the Great Plains including the western two-thirds of Nebraska Timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus). How many people die in India a year from snake bites?
I saw a National Geographic documentary on television.. ( channel NATGE..#551..STAR CHOICE TV.. December 2008..Topic..World's Most deadly Animals..India), that says approximately 200,000 people are bitten by snakes yearly in India. Of those, just over 50,000 die: EVERY YEAR!! That is just under 140 deaths PER DAY!!*#*( see caption below. 4th paragraph )
To me, this is very alarming. And this does not include any of the other deaths from larger snakes, example, Python, that strangle and swallow their victims whole. Think of an Indian woman washing her clothes close to a river bank and a snake "pull" her down and shes gone. The villagers knows shes mssing. They put it down to one of several things; Death by crocodile, alligator, large snake, or Bengal tiger.
In India, poisonous snakes follow the rodent population on which they feed. This cause them to come in very close contact with humans when the rodents LIVE among people.
I've heard some so-called experts( not from National Geographic) say that this *#* is just part of nature's way of "controlling the population". That is extremely preposterous!! 140 people being killed every day in ONE country!! All in the name of POPULATION CONTROL!!!? Can I get an "Oh My GOd"!!, to all you so- called experts!! What about the other extimated ( exact number unknown), 175 people that die daily in India from scorpion bites!!? ( Mostly Red scorpion). Should we put those 64,000 deaths per year, in India, down to POPULATION CONTROL also!!? We need better answers, I think. You be the judge.
