Is there a movie called 'Taxi Driver'?

Yes there is. I'm not sure what year it was released, but it stars Robert DeNiro. Great movie. * Rating: * Genre:Drama * Movie Type: Psychological Drama, Urban Drama * Themes: Assassination Plots, Obsessive Quests, Unrequited Love * Director: Martin Scorsese * Main Cast: Robert De Niro, Cybill Shepherd, Peter Boyle, Albert Brooks, Harvey Keitel, Jodie Foster * Release Year: 1976 * Country:US * Run Time: 113 minutes * MPAA Rating: R "All the animals come out at night" -- and one of them is a cabby about to snap. In http://www.answers.com/topic/martin-scorsese?initiator=WANS's classic 1970s drama, insomniac ex-Marine Travis Bickle (http://www.answers.com/topic/robert-deniro?initiator=WANS) works the nightshift, driving his cab throughout decaying mid-'70s New York City, wishing for a "real rain" to wash the "scum" off the neon-lit streets. Chronically alone, Travis cannot connect with anyone, not even with such other cabbies as blowhard Wizard (http://www.answers.com/topic/peter-boyle?initiator=WANS). He becomes infatuated with vapid blonde presidential campaign worker Betsy (http://www.answers.com/topic/cybill-shepherd?initiator=WANS), who agrees to a date and then spurns Travis when he cluelessly takes her to a porno movie. After an encounter with a malevolent fare (played by http://www.answers.com/topic/martin-scorsese?initiator=WANS), the increasingly paranoid Travis begins to condition (and arm) himself for his imagined destiny, a mission that mutates from assassinating Betsy's candidate, Charles Palatine (Leonard Harris), to violently "saving" teen hooker Iris (http://www.answers.com/topic/jodie-foster?initiator=WANS) from her pimp, Sport (http://www.answers.com/topic/harvey-keitel?initiator=WANS). Travis' bloodbath turns him into a media hero; but has it truly calmed his mind?

Written by http://www.answers.com/topic/paul-schrader?initiator=WANS, Taxi Driver is an homage to and reworking of cinematic influences, a study of individual psychosis, and an acute diagnosis of the latently violent, media-fixated Vietnam era. http://www.answers.com/topic/martin-scorsese?initiator=WANS and http://www.answers.com/topic/paul-schrader?initiator=WANS structure Travis' mission to save Iris as a film noir version of http://www.answers.com/topic/john-ford-filmmaker?initiator=WANS's late Western http://www.answers.com/topic/the-searchers-film?initiator=WANS (1956), aligning Travis with a mythology of American heroism while exposing that myth's obsessively violent underpinnings. Yet Travis' military record and assassination attempt, as well as Palatine's political platitudes, also ground Taxi Driver in its historical moment of American in the 1970s. Employing such techniques as http://www.answers.com/topic/jean-luc-godard?initiator=WANS jump cuts and ellipses, expressive camera moves and angles, and garish colors, all punctuated by http://www.answers.com/topic/bernard-herrmann?initiator=WANS's eerie final score (finished the day he died), http://www.answers.com/topic/martin-scorsese?initiator=WANS presents a Manhattan skewed through Travis' point-of-view, where http://www.answers.com/topic/robert-deniro?initiator=WANS's now-famous "You talkin' to me" improv becomes one more sign of Travis' madness. Shot during a New York summer heat wave and ...taxi-driver

Who is Dave Pelzer's mother?

Catherine Roerva Christen Pelzer was Dave Pelzer's mother, who passed away in 1992.

Catherine was an alcoholic who had been drinking from the age of 13. Brought up in the Mormon community of Salt Lake City, she would hide in the outhouse during Prohibition to wince down bootleg whiskey. Her parents were divorced, which made them outcasts in that religious community, and Catherine was frequently locked in a closet, denied food, and told how despicable she was.

Catherine suffered from alcoholism and was mentally ill. Her mental illness was Borderline Personality Disorder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borderline_personality_disorder ('Witch'), which is characterized by an irrational fear of rejection and abandonment and self-hatred as a result of surviving a childhood that required complete submission to a hostile or sadistic caregiver (pg 131) Christine Ann Lawson of 'Understanding the Borderline Mother'.

What are the best philosophical quotes?

Isaac Newton wrote some good ones;

"I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."

"I have not been able to discover the cause of those properties of gravity from phenomena, and I frame no hypotheses; for whatever is not deduced from the phenomena is to be called a hypothesis, and hypotheses, whether metaphysical or physical, whether of occult qualities or mechanical, have no place in experimental philosophy."

How does a 10-year-old child deal with a sociopath mother?

No child can simply "deal" with something like this. Even adults have a hard time dealing with a sociopath. Remember they are very deceptive and subtle. Jerks are jerks. But sociopaths are nearly impossible to detect. I had a horrible childhood and I'm pretty sure my mother was/is either borderline or a sociopath. I love my mother like you would not believe and our relationship has gotten much better as I've gotten older. She also has mellowed a LOT and we are close. Back to the 10-year-old, I would've done much better as a child had I known it wasn't me causing her to act the way that she did. I couldn't understand how my mother was so friendly and wonderful to the outside world but such a nightmare to me and my father and my siblings behind closed doors. As a ten year old I thought it HAD to be me or us. WE were at fault. The best support you can give to a victim of a sociopath -- child OR adult is to constantly build their self esteem.

Is it common for abuse to start when a third party joins the home be it a child or in your case his disabled brother who has become a household member?

I wouldn't say it's common and I don't know what type of abuse you are having to put up with (mental, physical or both.) There are times when a third party can move into the home and if that person needs care, or, they are not contributing to that household, but are lazy and just laying around, then it can get very distressful for the couple. Even if the 3rd person is nice, if they don't give you and your partner any privacy this can cause problems in your relationship. It's obvious there is a problem with the 3rd person being there and you have to sit down with your partner and openly and honestly tell them how you feel. If you got along before, then you should be able to hash this out and come to some solution. Good luck Marcy

In the harlan coben book one false move the character myron bolitar refers to a brother that he went with to a baseball game never again in any of the 8 myron bolitar books is there a brother mentione?

Myron's brother "Brad" is never mentioned in any other book in the series. It seems that the author stuck it in that book and forgot about him in the rest. It is a major oversight by Harlan Coben, since he portrays Myron as a only child in a Jewish family.

Correction: there's also reference to a sister in earlier books. Myron moved to her bedroom when she went off to college. Also, brother is mentioned in "Long Lost".
