How do you replace the alternator on a 1989 Ford Thunderbird?
I'm not sure if you have a 3.8 or the 5.0, but I've got a 1995 4.6 V8 T-Bird that I just changed the alternator on. It's quite easy and you should be able to do it in 30 minutes or less. First, disconnect the positive battery terminal and make sure it remains disconnected until you have bolted everything back in and put the belt back in place. Loosen and remove the belt from the alternator pulley by applying torque to the belt tensioner pully. There are 3 bolts that you have to undo. One on the top rear and two at the bottom. Make sure to also remove the bolt that attaches the positive lead to the top of the alternator. Also unclip the negative lead and ground clips. Doing all this should allow you to remove the alternator. Put the new alternator into its place, bolt it in and remember to plug the clips as well as bolt on the positive lead to the top of the unit. Put the belt back in place and reconnect the positive battery lead you disconnected at the beginning of the process. Start the car and listen for any strange squeaks or rattling. Keep in mind that the bearings of the new alternator will not be broken in yet, so they may whine for a little while after starting (at least mine did). That should be it, and I take no responsibility if you screw anything up.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1997 Ford Ranger?
If it is the same as a 1993 ford ranger. You will need a large adjustable wrench for the belt tensioner and a sized wrench to take off the three bolts of the actuator. Disconnect the battery wires at the battery, no need to try and shock you. Use the large wrench to pull back the self adjusting belt tensioner arm holding the main belt. The arm is on a spring and just needs to be moved to release the tension on the belt so you can take the belt off the alternator. Take out the three bolts holding the alternator in. Remove the wire harness and ground going to the alternator and exchange with new alternator. Repeat instructions in reverse to put the new alternator back in.
How do you disengage the alternator belt on a Ford F 150?
The alternator slides with the alternator bracket. Loosen the bolt that goes through the bracket into the alternator. You may need to loosen the bolt on the bottom as well. Don't remove either. Then slide the alternator towards the opposing pulley to loosen the belt enough to disengage.
Chances are the starter solenoid has developed a bad spot. If you are handy you could try to replace just the solenoid otherwise it may be time for the starter/solenoid combo.I assume you have checked your battery cables.
Are the serpentine belt and alternator part of the same system?
In the newer vehicles the serpentine belt drives all the pumps, compressor and the alternator on the engine.
How do you change the alternator belt on a Volvo 240 dl?

Where is the alternator fuse on a 2007 Saturn aura?
The 07 Saturn Aura does not have an alternator fuse, and technically it is a generator not an alternator. There is a large gauge wire from the generator to the starter, this is a fuseable link. Check for 12 vdc at the large terminal of the generator, if is missing check the terminal on the starter. If the starter has 12 vdc and the generator does not, the link is bad and must be replaced. DO NOT REPLACE the link with wire, a fuseable link must be used.
What type of current produced in alternator?
Alternators usually produce AC current but in an automobile the current is fed through diodes which coverts it to DC power that the car can use.
What does an alternator produce?
An alternator produces direct current that is used to charge up the battery while the car is running.
Check the dipstick tube o-ring. that's how I stopped my oil leak on my 1994 Geo Metro. I was having the same problem. The part only cost about .39 cents. Go to any hardware store to find it. Hope this helps
The devices that develop electric power are a generator (for direct current), or an alternator (alternating current). In a car, an alternator is used, with a rectifier, because of size and weight considerations.
What is the function of the alternator on a car?
to keep your battery charge and help provide your vehicle electricity
How do you replace the alternator on a 1997 Mazda 626?

2.0 I-4 or 2.5 V6?
If its the 2.5 1.put the car on ramps 2. drain radiator fluid3. remove upper radiator hose3. loosen/remove alt. drive belt (loosesn belt tensioner bolt and then move the tensioner up with adjusting bolt, a/c belt similar)4. remove plastic splash shield 5. loosen/remove drive belt for ac compressor.6. remove a/c compressor & support it on a stand but DONOT DISCONNECT A/C LINES 7. loosen alt. bolts (2) and unplug/unbolt wires from alt.8. remove old alt. from car (be careful not to damage radiator as there is not much clearance)
NOTE:
don't forget to refill and bleed the cooling system. you may have to unbolt the radiator supports and remove the cooling fan to gain access to the alt.
also, the 1st alt. I bought was bad, might be a good idea to have your new alt. bench tested before installation, most parts stores will do this for free.
You probably have a bad ground. Check the grounds on the brake lights.
How do you replace the alternator on a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L?
Disconnect the negative cable on the battery. Loosen the tensioner for the accessory belt for the alternator and remove the belt. Remove the two long bolts that are holding the alternator in the bracket. Do not let the alternator fall and tear the wires. Support it as it comes loose so you can reach the wires. Remove the main battery wire off of the single power connection on the back of the alternator. Remove the electrical connector that is the field connection from the back of the alternator and put it out of the way.
Install the new alternator with the bottom bolt first. Rotate the alternator upward and insert the top bolt through the bracket and alternator and then tighten top and bottom bolts. Install the main power wire to the back of the alternator followed by the field wiring harness connector. Install the accessory belt and tighten. Check the battery before starting and make sure it is not to low. If it is, charge the battery before starting so as not to damage the new alternator. An alternator is not designed to run at full capability for extended periods. This will overheat the new alternator, possibly causing damage. If the car does not have a voltmeter gauge then it is a good idea to use a voltmeter and check across the battery with the car running. There should be a charge of 14.5 going into the battery.

Try tightening the mounting bolt on the idler and/or tensioning pullies. This did the trick for a persistent squeek on my 93' Jeep Wrangler.
On some cars, the idler pulley {usually on the belt tensioner) can squeal. If you squirt some WD-40 or similar lubricant on the front of the bearing (engine off), and the noise goes away, it is probably the bearings in the idler pulley. If this is the case, replace the idler pulley, because the noise will come back after the lubricant gets slung out of the bearing.
I also have a Plymouth laser, I had the same problem and tryed the same things. If the above answers don't seem to work, look at the water pump. In the water pump there are ball bearings the keep it spinning smoothly and when the casing of the bearings give way, the bearings no longer glide over the surface, instead they bunch up and rub against the back of the pulley. If this is the case, you will be able to see the bearings behind the pulley.
