There is a lot of discussion about the use and effects of depleted uranium projectiles, both on a national and an international level. (The US is not the only country using them, but is the leading nation currently expending them.) These bullets use the high density and volatility of uranium to defeat armored targets. They are kinetic energy penetrating projectiles that lack explosives. These projectiles will arrive with elevated kinetic energy, and they vaporize as they deliver that energy into the target. This almost always has the effect of distributing the uranium around the point of impact as finely divided particles, and the uranium is then present as both a radioactive metal and a heavy metal toxin. The latter is the most hazardous threat.
The challenge in all this is providing good clinical evidence regarding the cause and effect of using these materials as regards what happens to people who are exposed. There is no doubt about the nasty effects of uranium poisoning on man, and some of those military people operating in the areas where the projectiles have been used can be exposed to the hazards. Needless to say, after the smoke clears and the troops leave, any civilian populations that move into the area can also be exposed. Documentation is a challenge, and a range of claims have been made. Assuming you mean a shotgun with a rifled bore, yes it can. However, you will not be happy with the results. A rifled shotgun bore is intended for use with sabot type slugs. And for those, it does very well. However, when firing ANY shot cartridge, the rifling will impart a spin to the fired shot (by spinning the shot cup). That spin will cause the pellets to spread apart, leaving an open hole in the middle of the shot. At longer distances, the shot pattern will look something like a doughnut. Likely resulting in a missed or wounded animal. For shot loads or rifled (Foster type) slugs, stick with the smoothbore. For sabot slugs, use the rifled bore.

They are not "so accurate". Standard pointed rounds are more accurate. Hollowpoints are used because they flatten on impact and this cause a lot of damage to the victim, but tend not to penetrate walls, etc., thus fewer injuries to bystanders.
Edit: What the person wrote above me is incorect. Although hollow points in bullets can be utilized so that "mushrooming" (A bullet expanding in its terminal state) it can also be used for accuracy. A HPBT (Hollow point boat tail) Is a type of bullet. This is known as a spitzer type bullet. It is used in rifles because it changes the location of the center of gravity helping the bullet stay stable in the flight pattern.
Backing up my facts:The Geneva Convention BANNED Hollow points from being used because they deemed them inhumane. It stated hollowpoints are made so they expand and cause unessesary suffering. Rifle bullets (HPBT spitzer type) use to counter attack terrorist snipers are the exception to the rule because the hollow point isn't designed to aid in mushrooming, in fact it doesnt even HELP mushrooming that much. The bullets are hollow point to aid in accuracy as noted earlier :D
