How to build a shadow box?

A shadowbox is an excellent way of displaying memorabilia. While a shadowbox can be made from just about anything, they are classically made from a dark wood with a glass sheet and a black interior. An easy way to make them is to take four lengths of pine 1x4 cut to the desired length and fasten them together forming the box and stain or paint the wood as desired. Next affix a back made of anything from a thin fiberboard to even a piece of cardboard and line the inside of the box with a velvety material. Affix the items you wish to display inside the box and place a sheet of glass over the top opening. The glass should be cut to 1/4 inch smaller than the exterior measurement of the box. Center the glass on the box and carefully tack on thin facing board, such as a quarter round or any finishing board.

There may be a coupon sale around President's Day, so I would keep an eye out for the sales flyer in your local newspaper. Alternatively, you can sign up for the JoAnn's mailer list and get the coupons mailed directly to your house just before the sale starts.
