What is the pressure of ocean water at sea level?

Right at the surface of the ocean, the pressure is just the same as the air pressure at sea level; that is, one "atmosphere", or about 14.7 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch).

But water pressure increases with increasing depth: For each foot of depth, the water pressure increases by 0.445 PSI.

SCUBA divers, who need to be very aware their depth because of this pressure effect, often use this rule: Every 33 feet of depth, water pressure increases by one "atmosphere" (14.7 PSI). So, for example, at 66 feet the pressure on a diver is three atmospheres: There's one atmosphere of pressure from the air, and two atmospheres from the water.

What damage will the Cumbre Vieja Volcano do to the East coast of Florida if it erupts?

If and when the Cumbre VIeja erupts the chance of a "Mega Tsunami" that could destroy cities is VERY VERY REMOTE!! Why?

Because the most sensational theory of all has gotten the most media attention. That being that the entire mountain will collapse into the ocean at once creating a huge wave that will wipe out entre cities. This scenario however is the LEAST LIKELY to happen. Why?

Because the most recent studies show that, despite the sensational claims of some, the mountain might crubmle and fall into the ocean piece by piece during a longer period of time, thus not replacing as much water-mass as would an instant collapse.

Even though the local islands and perhaps Spain the other local countries would see some tidal waves, there would be no such thing as a MEGA TSUNAMI that is even capable of reaching the east coast of the US and South America.

What is the coldest water temperature a plecostemus can tolerate?

ours have a tank next to the radiator pipe, and manage well in kitchen. When we do a full water change we add a kettle of boiled water BEFORE they go back in and this seems to do them nicely, they are 2 years old.

The above answer is terrible. Who cares if it is next to a radiator pipe...and what the heck does boiled water have to do with answering how cold the water is. This person wants an answer not a diatribe on your weird water changes. Soooooo to answer the question: A Plecostemus can tolerate in the low 60s, but proper temperature should be above 68.

If you want your Plecco to thrive you will keep it above 75F and you will also remember that it will grow into a very large fish (12inches or more) so it needs a large tank too.

I am a Canadian with a spring fed pond on my property and when they get too big i throw them in there. somehow those south-American catfish can live through the winter! toughest fish ive ever seen! i watched one chase the giant largemouth bass that's in there around the shallows! i think they can adapt to just about anything.

How does the Labrador current disrupt North Atlantic shipping lanes?

The Labrador Current is a cold ocean current that flows southward along the coast of Labrador and Newfoundland in Canada. It can impact North Atlantic shipping lanes by creating thick fog, strong winds, and rough seas, making navigation more difficult and hazardous for ships in the area. The cold water temperature can also affect the stability and performance of ships passing through these waters.

How much is 1lb of water?

~1/2 pound

First, note that 1 gram was originally defined to be the weight of one milliliter of ice water, so it is a good approximation of water weight (and mass).

Second we need milliliters of water in a cup:

There are 8 fluid ounces in a cup (that's *fluid* ounces, a measure of volume, not ounces, a measure of weight)

1 US fluid ounces = 29.5735296 milliliters x 8 fl. oz / cup= 236.588237 milliliters in a cup

By the above approximation, 1 cup, therefore, weighs 236.6 grams

236.6 grams = 0.521613712 pounds which equals approximately 1/2 pound.

How much money do gymnastics coaches make?

How do fish stay at a particular depth inthe ocean?

Fish are mostly made of water, like us. However, they don't contain as much gas in their bodies as we do (oxygen in our blood, burrito gas in our stomachs, and air pockets in our ear canals.) Their bodily water pressure is at the same pressure as the water in their surroundings. If we were born and raised down there too, we'd probably be wondering how those creatures on the surface survive WITHOUT pressure! (Yes, we do have 14.7 psi of air pressure - and we'd be hurt if we suddenly had zero pressure, such as in space.)
