Many modern surviving Mayans reside in an area known as the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala.
A vast chunk of this area is a farming community and weaving industry. They now speak Spanish instead of their native languages and have taken up modern technology, including computers and mobile/cell phones. They still practice Mayan traditions and beliefs (minus the sacrificing, luckily).
They have modern roads through their lands and use them to trade with surrounding towns and cities using vehicle transport.


There are also some tribes of indigenous native Mayans who still inhabit the lowland rainforest regions. Most of these have not yet been contacted by modern man and are protected by local governments by restricting travellers and air traffic over the areas they are known to inhabit.

The indigenous native Mayans who have come into contact with modern man mainly still act suspicious, but are happy to trade. For example, after one particular environmental disaster, a charity group left food on the border of a known native Mayan tribe, which the tribe accepted.

Everyone had to go to school. Their were no recess. Girls will learn how to weave, sew, and take care of kids. Boys will learn law and how to be men. They will also learn building. Slaves, boys, and girls went to school.

One of the cultural differences between the Maya and the Aztec of Mexico is that the Aztecs used many more human sacrifices. Another difference is that the Maya were more into science, such as astronomy. The art that the Maya and Aztec created were also of different styles.

Aztecs ate dog,a lot of corn,rich people drank hot cocoa and poor people drank water. Fruit and meat was luxurious for there were no large domistic animals.On feast days they ate deer,wild pigs,rabbits fish,and turkes. The Aztecs controlled territory that extends outward from Central Mexico. The Mayans controlled Southern Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala. The Incans controlled the majority of the modern nations of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, but their territory also extended into Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.

They built terraces. Which are steplike ledges cut into mountains to make land suitable for farming.

Women have gone through many roles throughout history. Initially the men in a woman's life, controlled her fate. Women were expected to be subordinate to their fathers until they married, then they were to be subordinate to their husbands. A married woman could hold property, it automatically transferred to her husband upon marriage. Women were also not allowed to vote. A turning point occurred when women during World War I, took over the jobs their husbands had to leave behind to go to war. Soon after, women were given the right to vote, and on the path to independence.

The Spaniards came to south America and sloterred millions of Aztecs. They sentenced the death penalty to anyone that continued to believe traditional Aztec religion. This almost ended the religion all together until many atecs escaped to Europe where the religion was secretly practiced.

In the history of the Americas many achievements have been made. Most of these achievements had come from the Maya, Inca, and Aztec Empires. Each civilization was greatly advanced in the topics agriculture, writing, and engineering and astronomy.

Astronomy was one of the greatest achievements of the Mayan Empire. The Mayan Empire knew how many days were in a year and showed that they knew fall spring equinox. They demonstrated their knowledge of astronomy on their Pyramid of Kukulkan which they built their city around. The Mayan had 365 steps leading up the pyramid of Kukulkan one for each day of the year. They also demonstrated their knowledge of astronomy through the autumn and spring equinox. Every spring and fall equinox a snake shadow would slither down the pyramid leading to their sacred water source.

The Mayan also developed a calendar according to their knowledge of astronomy. Another great achievement of the Mayan Empire is their system of writing. The Mayan Empire had a system of writing based on nearly 800 signs in which each sign represent a full syllable. This style of writing is called glyphs and is still unknown today. But from these glyphs we are able to assume that they can read and write and therefore have written records.

One of the greatest achievements for the Incan Empire was their agriculture. The Incan Empire used a farming technique called terrace. This is when they cut into the mountain creating what looks like huge steps. These steps are now flat and not pointing downhill so they are able to farm on them. The Inca were also very advanced in their engineering skills. The Incas had a complex system of roads uniting its Empire through the Andes Mountains. The Inca Empire had to build their road through the Andes Mountains so they had to go up and down the hills/mountains which made it much harder.

Another civilization advanced in engineering was the Aztec Empire. They used their engineering techniques to build tall building, roads, canoes, canals, artificial causeways, bridges, temples, and houses. The Aztec Empire was built on and island and on this island they expanded it using some of their engineering techniques. Another topic in which they were advanced was agriculture. They used artificial islands to grow their crops. This was called floating gardens or chinampas. The islands were usually 15 to 30 feet big. With this technique their crops would get plenty of water so they would not have to water them as often.

The Maya, Inca and Aztec were all successful in many different ways. Through their advanced knowledge of engineering, agriculture astronomy and writing they have created many achievements. These civilizations can be considered great for their achievements.

Don't know what you mean by why. They weren't traveling to the Americas for the Aztecs, they came over to further colonize and were looking at the Yucatan peninsula, where the Aztecs lived, as a prime target for colonization.

Reasons for Aztec and incan conquer:

1. The tribes were quite primitive and so was their war material!

2. The spanish brought diseases that the incans and Aztecs had never heard of!

3. The Aztecs and incans believed that their gods would protect them, The spanish smashed the gods!
