Back pain for 3 years MRI scan found minor post disc bulge what can I do for the pain?
All of us have experienced pain at some time in our lives - all of us except for those rare unfortunate people who were born with the inability to feel pain. Pain is the most common reason people seek medical attention; about 80 per cent of doctor visits are primarily because of some pain problem. The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain " as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience arising from actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage". This definition makes it clear that pain is more than just a chemical or electrical signal. Pain can include diverse unpleasant sensations such as aching, tightness, burning and numbness.
Pain also have adverse effects on the body beyond the perception of pain. The physical effects of pain can include: * Poor wound healing, weakness, and muscle breakdown * Decreased movement of the affected body parts, resulting in an increased risk of blood clots in the veins and in the lungs * Shallow breathing and cough suppression, which can increase the risk of pneumonia * Increased sodium and water retention in the kidneys * Decreased gastrointestinal motility * Increased heart rate * Increased blood pressure * Weakening of the body's immune system, causing decreased natural killer cell counts * Insomnia * Loss of appetite and weight loss * Fatigue Fatigue is an important consequence of pain. This was documented in a recent review of 23 reports about the association between pain and fatigue, which found overwhelmingly that they are related and suggested that there may be a cause and effect relationship. Unrelieved pain also has adverse psychological effects. It causes anxiety, depression, fear, stress, loss of enjoyment of life, and difficulty relating to other people. It can increase marital conflict, reduce sexual desire, and cause feelings of anger and resentment. Pain is generally thought of being as either acute or chronic. Acute pain results from some trauma to the body - an injury, an operation, or an illness. It usually resolves when the underlying injury has healed or the cause has been treated. Although it is uncomfortable, acute pain serves a useful function: It signals that there is something wrong and motivates the person to get help. Because of the pain caused by an inflamed appendix, most people manage to undergo surgery before the appendix bursts, which constitutes a much more serious surgical problem. Because a heart attack usually causes severe chest pain, an increasing number of people with coronary heart disease are hospitalised early enough to benefit from procedures the prevent further damage to the heart. Acute pain IS beneficial. Acute pain usually has a clear cause. The same is true for postoperative pain. Doctors are much less reluctant to treat pain whose origin is well understood; but even now postoperative pain is often undertreated. A random sample of 250 adults who had undergone surgery were recently surveyed about their pain experience. Approximately 80 per cent of the patients experienced acute pain after surgery; of these; 86 per cent has moderate, severe or extreme pain, with more patients experiencing pain after being discharged. Experiencing postoperative pain was the most common concern of patients. The study concluded that many patients continue to experience intense pain after surgery. How Does Chronic Pain Differ From Acute Pain?
About 9 per cent of the US population suffers from consistent moderate to severe chronic pain. Several surveys in Europe show that about 18 per cent of people have chronic pain, and the prevalence increases with age. Chronic pain is not just acute pain that lasts longer than a week or a month. It differs from acute pain in several respects. it has become clear that acute and chronic pain are processed differently in the brain. The severity and extent of chronic pain may be out of proportion to the original injury and may continue long past the period in which the damaged tissue has healed. Chronic pain is pain that has outlived its usefulness and is no longer beneficial. Acute and chronic pain have different treatment goals. The primary goals of acute pain treatment are to diagnose the source and remove it. With chronic pain, the main goals are to minimise the pain and maximise the person's functioning. Diagnosis, of course, a first step, but frequently the source is either already clearly understood (for example, multiple unsuccessful back operations or oesteoarthritis of the knee) or else very poorly understood and unlikely to be better understood (for example fibromyalgia or chronic pelvic pain). In either case, the pain persists and must be treated in its own right. With chronic pain, however, treatment goals must be realistic. Complete relief of the pain is rare. A more realistic goal is to decrease the level of pain to a tolerable level that allows the person to focus on everyday activities. Returning to work is clearly a desirable goal, but in fact, only about 50 per cent of patients who undergo comprehensive multidisciplinary pain rehabilitation are able to return to work. There are many alternative treatments that you could look into, I do Pilates/Yoga and Bowen Treatment.
Movement is the key when you have pain and I know that sounds daft but the more we move the better we feel :)

How does imipramine work in kidney related problems?
Imipramine has been used for a number of years for thr treatment of bedwetting in patients over the age of 6, though the primary indication is for use as an antidepressant. It is generally used after possible organic causes have been ruled out. The precise mechanism of action of imipramine is not definitely known. It may affect the muscles of the bladder, or it may have some effect on the hormone that causes the kidneys to release urine antidiuretic hormone (ADH), or it may work by causing the child to sleep more lightly. The mode of action of the drug in controlling childhood enuresis is thought to be apart from its antidepressant effect.

Hello, Your question is: Period due tomorrow you have no signs of it. You have had diarrhea really bad and constipation your boyfriend cooked for you and about 2 minutes after eating you threw it up and had anal pain and swelling have headaches and sore throat. When you are poorly, your period may be delayed. This is a common occurance among menstruating Women. Have you had anal sex? I ask this as you have mentioned you're experiencing anal pain and swelling. For the anal pain and swelling take 2 paracetamol tablets and apply a cold compress - for example ice wrapped in a towel or even some ice cubes. This will numb the area, make it more comfortable for you and also relieve some of the swelling. Personally if anal sex results in these symptoms for you then I would avoid it. If you've not had anal sex then purchase some Sudocrem cream and apply this to your anus - this will soothe away any irritation. Reading everything you have mentioned including the vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, sore throat and headache it sounds like you have a viral tummy bug. Most people with a viral tummy bug will experience your symptoms. Drink plently of fluids and try to eat light food such as omlete, scrambled egg, fish, cheese or soup. If your period doesn't arrive in 2 weeks then perform a pregnancy test. Please note this is advice only and should not be used in place of a Doctors evaluation.
What causes your neck to hurt and what can remedy this situation?
Cervical Degenerative Disk Disease. Physical Therapy and antiinflammatory medicine would help control the pain.
If your tubes were tied, you're not pregnant. The HPT proved that, although I'm not sure what you mean by "until a few hours later." The test is designed to be read in the presribed time. Reading it HOURS later will yield a false positive. Your brief periods, feelings of being pregnant, and back pain could all be signs of serious gynecological problems. Get thee to a doctor. PRONTO!

What is the difference between Cervicalgia and arthritis?
Cervicalgia means simply a pain in the neck. cervic- means neck and -algia means pain.
Arthritis is the inflammation of a joint caused by various disorders and diseases. arthr- means joint and -itis means inflammation. Arthritis can be in any joint - your finger, hip, neck, knee, etc.
Arthritis could cause cervicalgia if it is located in the spine at the level of the vertebrae in the neck. But, other things can also cause cervicalgia, such as trauma and whiplash, sprain or strain, stress and tension, etc. and not only arthritis.
Cervicalgia would be the symptom, and arthritis would be one condition that could cause that symptom.
It happened to me two, and I'm wondering the same thing.

Yes, try Bowen Therapy from a fully qualified registered therapist. I suffered from a bulging disc L4/L5 disc with low back pain, sciatica and leg numbness and wasting starting in 1987. In 1999 I had four Bowen Therapy treatments and have been virtually pain free since.
Can swimming in a saltwater pool dissolve bone grafts from a spinal fusion?
No. You are covered with skin. The pool water if it is unbalanced can have a negative effect on anything that contains calcium, but only if it is in the acid range, then you would see the effect on plaster, metal and teeth. Keep in mind this is a very extreme case but is has happened at least once that I have seen documented. If your swimming with an exposed back its never a good idea and not because of the bone issue but because of an infection issue.
Can you die from getting hit in the neck with a baseball?

What car seats are best for lower back pain?
In my experience, Volvo makes some of the best seats on the market in terms of lower back support and comfort. I know several people with lower back pain that have owned BMW's, Mercedes, Audi, Saab, and Lexus and they all agree that their Volvo (old or new) had the most comfortable and supportive seats. If you search the web some folks have installed Volvo seats in other cars such as a Prius. I think it comes down to seat shape and lumbar support/control and matching it to your body type. It's hard to tell with back pain sometimes since it can take over an hour in the seat to find out it's not supporting you well enough. As for aftermarket, I know Recaro has a seat designed for people who need more lower back support, but they're over $2000. I don't have any experience with them though.
Slight loss of normal lumbar lordosis?
Slight loss of normal lumbar lordosis is a subjective evaluation by the radiologist of the alignment of the lumbar vertebrae which should form a forward facing curve on the lateral x-ray of the lumbar spine. It is a highly subjective evaluation and for the most part, when slight, can not be inferred to have any specific meaning. A normal lumbar spine may seem to have a slight loss of lordosis. Pain, muscle spasm, arthrosis and a host of other conditions may be associated with the finding.
You don't, don't try to scam your doctor out of prescriptions, he could be seeing people who are actually sick or in pain. Please i implore you not to add to Americas downfall.
Does skateboarding cause you back pain when your older?
The answer is yes - and no. I'm 47 and have been skateboarding vert ramps an hour a day, 3-5 days a week for the past 20 years. Once every couple of years I get anywhere between a couple of days and 2 weeks of dreadful back pain, such that I have to lean against the wall to get out of bed. I've just got over a particularly bad 2-week episode. But this time I went to the doctor, and was told that it's just temporary muscle damage pulling my back out of alignment. It hurts while you have it but it gets better and it doesn't do you any structural harm. Whereas the long-term fitness, muscle-tone, bone-density and life-enhancing pleasure you get from skateboarding do you untold good. So it's unpleasant while you have back pain, but the best thing is to take an anti-inflammatory tablet (e.g. Neurofen) while it's bad, then wait a few days (or however long it takes) and get back on your board again.
What hobbies are there to do when you have chronic pain?
