How do you troubleshoot an ABS light on a 1997 Cadillac Deville?
This is a start but beyond this get your wallet out. The ABS and Traction Control are an integrated unit, ie: either could be at fault. First place to look is the wheel sensors, take one wheel off at a time and in behind on the back side of the hub assembly you will see an electrical connector with two wires going into it. Unsnap the connector and measure the resistance across the (wheel side) of the plug with your digital meter - set meter to ohms - mine were about 1.110 to 1.052 on the 2K ohms scale. What the actual reading should be I dont know but you can get a good idea if one is bad by comparing the measurements from all four wheels. Obviously a reading on one well above or below the others is a good indication of a bad sensor. The other check to do on each sensor is to check that the sensor is outputting. Connect your leads across the (wheel side) of the plug again and set your meter to AC volts on the lowest scale. Now put your wheel back on with a couple of nuts hand tight and spin the wheel while watching the meter. Mine showed about 0.40 volts turning as fast as I could - the voltage will vary the faster you turn. If you have no AC volts on one then take the brake caliper off and the rotor and inspect / clean the sensor and pulse mechanism from the inside & try again. Next - *switch on your ignition* & connect your meter across the (CAR SIDE) of the plug and switch to DC volts on say the 20 volt range - the reading on mine was about 4.7 volts and varied about 0.2 between all readings. (DO NOT SHORT OUT THESE BY ACCIDENT - GO SLOW USE EXTREME CARE) Again I do not know the actual spec but a reading on one greatly different from the others is a good indicator that something is wrong with the ABS module itself or the wiring leading back to it. Follow each line and check all plugs found. On the rear wheels the right and left sensors converge into a four wire plug fastned to a cross member about mid point. You can actually do all your checks here for the rear wheels without taking the wheels off if you want. The front is impossible to follow any distance.
Note that the plugs Cadilac uses for this system is absolutely pathetic considering the extreme harshness of the environment being right at the wheels and inches from the ground. Stones sticks or ice could rip them right off the car and they are watertight plugs not waterproof. WHAT A CRUEL JOKE! GM Engineers are morons. Instal an expensive safety system to insure it will never work when you need it most - wet & snowing. In any case this is as far as I got, all my readings were similar and therefore my problem is (not likely) to be a sensor. I'll add to this as I (learn more) & work back toward the actual system.
No it is not necessary to remove the axle nut in order to remove the front caliper. Once you remove the caliper the rotor should come off.

you need do take the oil pressure switch off . install a manual oil pressure gage . then check oil pressure , cold and hot , cold will be higher / 30-40psi . hot at idle shouldbe around 8-12 psi or so. , if that checks out ok , you might just need a new oil pressure switch(it shoul be beside the oil filter . on the housing . if lower , your oil pump oe engine is worn out. time for a rebuild . hope this helps.

It is behind the battery on the drivers side inner fender. It has a heavy red wire that you can follow to the positive side of the battery. (There are some other wires also so if you replace the starter relay, mark your wires so as not to mix them up.) Hopefully this will help.

Who do you replace water pump on 1999 Cadillac Deville?
If you have a Northstar 4.6, start by purchasing the special removal/installation tool.
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove both radiator hoses
The water pump is on the right hand side of the engine and is driven by a pulley that comes off of one of the overhead cams.
3. remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. remove the pulley guard.
5. loosen the tensioner and take the belt off of the pulley.
If you decide to replace the belt you need to remove the tensioner, remove the studs that the pulley guard came off of and the tensioner will come out.
6. remove the water pump housing cover. the thermostat housing is bolted to this cover. it has (4)10mm bolts that hold it on.
7. using the special tool, turn the water pump clockwise (it twist-locks into the housing) and remove it.
8. clean all sufaces, replace both o-rings.
9. CAREFULLY! install the new pump with the special tool. be careful that you turn it all the way in counter-clockwise but that you don't pull too hard. The pump has steel tabs that lock into grooves in an aluminum housing. if you damage that housing by forcing the pump too hard you will cost yourself a ton of time and money.
10. re-assemble the engine in reverse order as disassembly.
don't forget to use your torque specs. You are working with aluminum castings.

A 1998 Cadillac Deville does not have a blower relay. The system has a fuse and a controller to feed power to the blower motor.

Towards the back of the owners manual Cadillac listed a very detailed diagram with photo. Also the back of the fuse panel cover that pulls off, there is a sticker with basic info on most cars. Manuals if you dont have one can be purchased reasonably on ebay.
The fuse panel itself will fold down for access on a hinge. You have to CAREFULLY squeeze the two black plastic tabs together and the entire panel folds down. Then the cover, if still present snaps off for access to the fuses.

Why do you use 330 ohm resistor for LED?
It is not 330 ohms it is a value that must be installed in series to insure a 20ma or so of current limiting. This value of 330 ohms can change greatly if the source voltage changes greatly. It also has to be noted that the LEDS are not created equally So each LED voltage drop can be added to the equation.
Exactly how is going to depend on who installed the alarm. There would be a relay which (likely) breaks the starter cable. You'd need to locate this relay and reconnect the starter cable where the relay has been inserted. Not much help, I guess, but for what it's worth.
If you know where the alarm module is you could try tracing the cables from it, or (easier) try tracing the starter cable from the switch until you find a break (tape, splices, whatever) then just remove the inserted cables and join (repair) the starter cable. If anyone has a wiring diagram that would give the colour of the cable, it would help.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1991 Cadillac Deville 4.9L front wheel drive?
It is a big job so get a manual from the parts store.
i just did mine the other day, What you want to do go get your water pump and your gasket and blue gasket sealer a big tube not them little packets,remove batter and raidiator overflow, leave the belt on and loosen the 3 bolts on the pulley(which is a pain in the ass, use a screwdriver or another wrench 10mm i think, then remove the belt and remove all the other bolts holding the pump to the engine face, there are alot of them just to warn you, after you remove the pump scrape off where the old gasket was with a putty knife, apply gasket sealer to the gasket and then place on the gasket then the same with the pump, you then have to put the bolts back in and then you have to tighten up the pulley by hand then put belt on then tighten bolts more, although it did look like there was lock tight or something on the pulley bolts i removed i didnt put nothing on i just tightened them as much as i could i have not checked there tightness yet though, if you do this then you may want to check them a day or two after
This is all correct, but some tips: after scraping the block clean, spray with brake cleaner and wipe clean with a rag. Also, dont use that silicone goop. Instead use high tack. Its much cleaner and goes on much neater. I have a more detailed description as an answer to a 92 caddy water pump replacement that will work for all 4.9L Here it is:
- Remove the coolant overflow bottle.
- Remove the battery.
- Loosen the pulley bolts.
- Loosen or remove the drive belt.
- Remove pulley bolts
- Remove all studs and bolts from old water pump.
- Pull old pump off. Use a screwdriver to start it but be careful not to bend the old pump. Also, tapping the center of the pulley lightly with a hammer may help loosen it. If it is hard to get out, check and make sure all bolts are removed. When you remove the pump, there will not be enough room to remove the pulley drum from the pump. This is important to remember when installing the new water pump.
- Scrape area off with a gasket scraper and razor blade to remove old gasket. Make sure its clean! Spray it with brake cleaner and wipe clean afterward.
- Spray both sides of the new gasket with high tack. High tack works much better than the goop because it is clean, even, and seals well.
- Slip gasket in carefully and be sure it fits properly over bolts and is in correct placement against block. Press down to ensure seal.
- Spray the inside of the water pump with high tack evenly.
- Install water pump into correct place against block making sure that pulley drum is already hanging from new pump or you will not get it on afterward!
- Install bolts and studs and tighten down.
- Install pulley screws and tighten as best you can.
- Reinstall and tighten drive belt.
- Finish tightening pulley bolts.
- Reinstall battery and coolant overflow bottle being sure that bottle is empty.
- Let sealant dry overnight.
- Fill system with water next day/morning and run/drive car as normal until you are sure it is not leaking.
- If no leaks exist, drain system and fill with proper coolant mixture.
- Return old water pump in box for return on core fee.
Ive done this twice on a 92 Sedan DeVille, so just post any questions you have. If your wondering why I did it twice, the part store sold me a bad pump that went out within two months.
Check to see if you are getting power to the blower motor - if so motor is defective if not problem in circuitry to blower motor
