For terminating a contract you need to first review the contract looking for an explanation of your right to terminate. Some dealerships have a no questions asked policy for a short period of time after the sale but you must make certain you have that in writing. One local dealership offers a 48 hour full refund period if you change your mind.

It sounds entirely reasonable that you would pay them back for the remaining amount of the loan and for the needed repairs. I assume that the co-signer was trying to get the loan off of his credit and that perhaps you were not paying regularly or on time. There may be other circumstances that are not addressed here.

I just traded in my '97 VW Jetta GLX towards a '04 Jetta GL. Here are all the problems I had with the '97 Jetta over the 4 years I owned it; Water pump was replaced, wiring in the doors to the windows went out (all of them), the motor to one of the back windows went out, heater core one day leaked all over my legs and had to replace, all the upper radiator hoses were disintegrating and had to replace, the fog lights worked half the time, the a/c quit, the cruise control quit, and the throttle body was going but I traded it.
Even though I had all these problems with my car I still loved it. The motor was great at 150k miles and it was fun to drive. I'll be in a VeeDub for a while...
