Any fuel spill,storage or leak can cause fuel odor inside the car.

The smell of rotten eggs is due to a compound called hydrogen sulfide. This comes from the small amount of sulfur that is present in the fuel. Normally the sulfur is converted to sulfur dioxide, which has no odor. When the converter breaks or the filtering layers have worn down inside the converter, the sulfur is not transformed into the odorless form. Therefore a strong rotten egg smell is produced. Another possible cause for this smell may be that the converter is plugged. Unfortunately you cannot repair a converter but need to have it completely replaced. Two other causes of rotten eggs besides a broken catalytic converter include an engine that is running too hot or a broken fuel pressure regulator. You can easily deal with the fuel pressure regulator by replacing the fuel filter. Ensure fuel pressure is ok and excess fuel not being dumped into convertor, but if that were the case, you should have mil on for running too rich, also try changing gas stations-some brands mix and or have more additives. If you must change convertor go to a muffler shop-they do it routinely and pretty cheap. You may also have a code pop up soon for 02 sensor behind convertor which monitors it's efficiency. If excess fuel is causing your problem, eventually it will start killing your O2's.

- A week ago I had the same problem. I took it to two places before they discovered the problem: I had a plastic bag melting on my muffler. I had picked it up while driving and it was slowly burning over the last week. the head is blown , or is about too . This must be a 3vze v6. If so it is probably a blown head gasket. They had a recall on this, maybe over now though I dont know. This is very common on the v6 aluminum head and iron block. New head bolts and an upgraded gasket is a good fix. dealer waranty under the recall is a better one.

The first and easiest answer that comes to mind is that there is a problem with the cabin air circulating fan. BUT - - there is not really enuf specific information. Are you sure it is a burning RUBBER smell, or a burning PLASTIC smell, or a burning ELECTRICAL smell? All could point to different problems.

watch your coolant level because antifreeze is probably leaking in your heater core, another indication of leaking heater core is greasy film on inside of your windshield and it makes it hard to defrost.

It's very possible. I would definitely take it to a mechanic and get their opinion. Burning smells and smoke can be a sign of overheating, which can severely damage your motor.

Only way you can smell is through the olfactory nerve in your nose, which sends that signal to your brain.... Put briefly, you are having simple partial seizures in your temporal lobe..Abnormal electrical discharges in that part of the brain is creating this sensation of smell, but the smell does not exist...Go see a Nuerologist, and get an EEG and you will understand...It can be controlled with Meds..
