Fuel filter was replaced less than a year ago. Battery is original, factory. Car ('02 Saturn SL1) has about 125,000 miles on it. Problem is intermittent and usually occurs after car has been running and is turned off and back on. One final note: The car will turn over, run, all electrical works, no dimming of headlights. Car can be driven but will stall when idling later. Quick fix seems to be simply turning the car off then back on immediately.

Nothing major like the the intake has to be removed. Below are the basic steps to change it out. I'll also add a link to the right that will take you to a walkthrough with pictures. 1)Drain the coolant: 2)Remove the shroud: 7-10 mm bolts 3)Remove the fan and clutch: There is no need to separate the fan from the clutch. The whole thing threads on to the end of the water pump. I don't know the size, because rather than break out all my wrenches, I just grabbed an 18 inch crescent wrench. Place the wrench on the nut and tap loose with a hammer. the tapping will break it loose. You have to tap it, if you just try to loosen it, the belt won't hold it and the whole thing will turn. After it breaks loose just spin it off. 4)Break loose the bolts holding the pulley on: 4- 13 mm or 1/2" bolts Just break them loose, don't remove them 5) Remove the serpentine belt 6) Remove the pulley: Finish removing the bolts holding the pulley and remove the pulley 7) Disconnect the hoses 8) Remove the old pump: 4-14 mm or 9/16" bolts 9) Clean the surface: Remove all traces of the old gasket. 10) Install new pump: Apply a bead of blue Permatex around the holes on both sides of the gaskets, put them on the pump and insert the bolts through the holes to hold the gaskets in place. Carefully lower the pump in to position. Thread the bolts into the block and snug them. Then remove the bolts one at a time, add the permatex to the threads, and then reinsert. (only do one at a time so that the pump doesn't shift and disturb the mating surfaces) Then tighten all the bolts. 11) Reinstall everything in reverse. There will be a lot of air trapped in the system, so after you fill it, get the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, let it cool, then add more. The air trapped in the system can cause your engine to over heat if left unattended. I suggest filling the system with water only and run it like that for a day or two just to make sure there are no leaks. That way you don't waste your antifreeze if you have to do further repairs. Sounds like the key and/or lock is worn. Try appling a graphite lock lubricant to key and lock assembly. Could also try using the spare key, it may not be worn as much.

Was the battery or power recently disconnected if so the ignitation key has to be cycled 25 times before it will engage into 4wd high. Turn key on and off 25 times should go right in (as per GM Service manual)
How do you flush a heater core?
Disconnect both heater hoses from the heater or the engine, whichever is easier. Fabricate fittings to attach a garden hose to one of the heater connections. I direct the other heater connection into a bucket. Turn on the garden hose gradually until all the way open. Flush for 30 seconds. Reverse heater connections and back flush another 30 seconds. Reinstall heater hoses, top off radiator coolant reservoir. Done.

the answer to your question is yes the fuel pump on a 1997 blazer is in the fuel tank the easy way to do this is to drain the fuel disconect the battery remove the straps after supporting the tank lower the tank about half way to three fourths disconect wiring remove the large metal ring by tapping counter clockwise and work out the old fuel sending unit then replace with new unit doing the reverse procedure.

The screen built into the gasket will catch the clumps and egr will not be a problem. Don't treat the symptoms, fix the problemThe carbon chunks are a problem that has plagued many 1995 owners. The carbon chunks are caused by unburnt fuel exiting the engine. The carbon chunks enter the EGR valve as it opens to allow exhaust gas into the combustion chambers. The gaskets with the screens will temporarily relieve the symptoms, but will trap the carbon chunks in the EGR ports of the enigine block, eventually causing them to clog and result in more repair work. It's much more effective to fix the cause of the unburnt fuel in the exuast. This rich condition can be caused by many things, such as faulty 02 sensors or the engine needing a tune up, however the most common cause is unmetered fuel leaking into the intake. From 1993 - 1995 these enigne used a central port injector (CPI), which is a single fuel injector mounted inside the intake with lines and poppet valves going to each cylinder. This system has two weaknesses, the internal fuel lines (called the "Nut kit" by GM) and the fuel pressure regulator. These two items commonly leak and cause unmetered fuel to leak down into the cylinders. It can even leak so bad that the fuel will leak past the pistons rings and into the crankcase oil, eventually causing catostrophic engine damage. Luckily these problems are easy to diagnose. You can pull the vortec cover and the IMT valve to try peeking through to see if they're leaking, but it's better to pull the upper plenum so that you can get the full view. The whole inside should be black, if it is leaking there will be clean spots from the fuel washing the inside. Clean spots on the driver side indicate a leaking nut kit. Clean spots on the passenger side indicate a leaking FPR. If one of them are leaking you can replace just the one that's leaking, but a lot of people just replace both so that thay don't have to worry about it.GM has also issued a TSB regarding the EGR problems. It involves reprograming the computer to cylce the EGR valve at certain times to help prevent carbon buildup.
