How do you change a head gasket on a 2001 Chevy Cavalier?

How do you pull a cam out of a 327 Chevy?

Remove all front accessories from engine. Remove radiator. To make it easier later, rotate the engine until the distributor is at #1. Remember or mark where the rotor is pointing. Remove distributor. Remove intake. Loosen oil pan bolts. Remove fuel pump. Remove timing cover. Remove valve covers and loosen all rocker arm nuts. Remove push rods. Remove lifters. Remove cam gear and timing chain. Now pull cam from front of engine being careful not to damage the cam bearings in the engine. To install use a moly lube on the cam lobes and Lubriplate on the bearing journals. You always have to use new lifters with a new cam. Carefully slide in the cam. The timing chain gears will have marks....dots usually on one of the teeth. Line these up, with the chain installed, so that the cam gear is showing 6 o'clock and the crank gear is at 12. Bolt it to the cam. Now turn the crank until it is back at 12 but the cam is also at 12 instead of 6. This is #1 compression stroke. This will help you when you install the distributor. Install is reversal. There are procedures online for setting the rocker arms while the engine is cold. I know it sounds like a lot, but years ago when I did this several times a year I could do it in a couple of hours. It will take you considerably longer since you haven't done so before.

How do you program a 2003 cavalier with a new key FOB?

How do you remove and replace the ignition switch in a 1994 Explorer?

To change out the ignition switch (key lock): I found you can follow the instructions in Haynes, autozone.com, etc. up to the point of the release pin. Instead of approaching from the bottom with the punch or awl - you won't find any hole, you need about 8 - 10 inches of wire like bailing wire (stiff, about 3/32" diameter). Look down from above at the key/lock housing. At about the middle of the housing you will see a cylindrical shape in the housing that will be pointing toward the driver's seat. This contains the channel to reach the release pin. You will be able to see (still looking from above) a rectangular slot where you can reach the channel. Take the wire and bend in a "L" shape with a gentle arch so the shortest end has about 1 1/2" straight wire. Insert the short end in the opening to find the pin and push it in to release the lock mechanism. I have a 94 Ford Ranger XLT v6 4L that this description fits exactly!! I even took my old door key with the new ignition key to a locksmith and had them finish cutting the new ignition key for the old door locks. Total costs for me to do the change ~$35.00 the local Ford dealership wanted $325.00. Total time including install, buying part, getting keys cut 1.5 hours. This site is great!

How do you remove a window handle from 1999 Chevy cavalier?

this is fun and easy. Go grab an old t-shirt or thin cotten rag..cut it on a strip that is 2-3 inches wide and a foot long. take the cloth, push the middle of the rag in between the handle and door, next twist the rag clockwise and or counterclockwise all the way around. The rag will catch a metal pin holding the handle on.

What are the symptoms a fuel pump going out on a 1993 Chevy cavalier?

Typically symptoms are the car will start and run then begin to cut off,or sputter.Sometimes the car might run fine then randomly cut off and hard restarts. There are a lot of things can happen however the best way to determine if the fuel pump is weak is to hook up a fuel pressure tester for psi.If the pump is weak or the fuel filter is clogged can create a weak pump or starve the engine of fuel.Bottom line have the pressure checked and changing the fuel filter would be a quick fix if it is old and creating less flow. The only other point is fuel pumps after so many years like your 93 it probably is weak or failing.

How do you adjust the idle on a 1988 Chevy Cavalier 2.0 four cylinder?

You can not adjust the idle screw, it is sealed off at the factory. If you are having a high idle problem check for a vacuum leak or a bad idle air control valve. These will commonly cause a high idle.

How do you get the door panel off of a Chevy Cavalier?

AnswerBE SURE YOUR WINDOW IS ROLLED DOWN BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS - YOU WILL ALSO NEED A PHILIPS HEAD SCREWDRIVER - This is for a 2000+ cavalier coupe...

(STEP 1) Remove the 2 screws that are in the door handle.

(STEP 2) Using a door handle remover found at your local auto parts store for about 3 bux, or better yet, a butterknife...remove the pin holding on the window crank handle (The pin looks like a horseshoe kinda) Then remove the crank handle.

(STEP 3) Remove all the screws along the perimeter of the door panel, I think there are about 5.

(STEP 4) Now just pull the panel out and up. If you here small "snaps" it is normal because it is also held on with clips.

How do you adjust or replace the lifters on a 1996 Chevy Cavalier?

Actually the 96 cavalier i just rebuilt for a guy has an Over head valve engine in it meaning it has a cam inside the block with lifters and pushrods running up to the rockers up top.To start off make sure your engine is set to TDC #1 cylinder adjust the rocker nuts to 0 lash then 1/4 turn to tighten .Then put engine on TDC #3 do the same thing . Then cylinder #4 TDC . Then #2 TDC. Once you have done this on all 4 cylinders install the valve cover and it should fire right up. to do so you will have to remove the valve cover on the top of the engine. it would be a good idea to go to a parts store and purchase a repair manuel for your car if you have never done this type of work.

How do you remove the door panels in your 1999 Z24 Cavalier?

To remove the door panel on a cavalier there are four screws on the under side and the back of the bottem lip. Remove those screws then there are 2 screw in the door handle. Remove those. remove the triangle piece of plastic where the mirror controls are then give it a little tug and the door panel should pop loose then lift up and walk away with it. If you have crank windows then you have to remove the crank lever and if you have electric locks the you have a clip you have to un do that powers the switch.
