You need a Cars and Concepts Inc conversion kit, or a Junk 1982 collectors edition corvette you can get the parts from. Cars and Concepts went out of business years ago so finding a NOS conversion kit is nearly impossible.

A base (meaning, more or less, the cheapest to buy, few options) corvette is faster than a base camaro. Some camaros are faster than some corvettes. Look up stroker motor, supercharging, and nitrous oxide injection.

My 84 had the same hesitation on takeoff, not bad, just annoying. It was the EGR valve. Check that if you haven't already. After I replaced it the problem was gone. Make sure you get the exact one for your engine as they do differ slightly.

There is a double sided plastic gear inside your headlight motor and when that starts to go out you will hear the infamous noise you are describing. This will get worse and eventually your headlight will stop coming up at all. The good news is that you can actually flip that gear fairly easy if it hasn't been flipped before or you can buy a brass or aluminum gear to replace your plastic gear, they are about 85 bucks for a set. When they started using fuel injection in cars, they found that if a car was in an accident, that as long as the key was on, the fuel would continue pumping. The last thing you would want would be for gas to be spraying all over a car with wires sparking, and hot engine parts, and even a fire. So, they came up with an inertia switch. When it senses a strong enough bump, it shuts off the fuel pump. I'm not sure what the different car companies put them. Some had reset switches. I think some were even in the glove compartment, but I know Ford and Mercury had them in the trunk where you could reset them fairly easy. My brother had a Mercury Sable that blew a tire once. That was enough to trip the inertia switch and shut down the car.
