How do you remove the starter from a 1993 Chevy Lumina?
I have a 1993 Lumina Euro sedan with a 3100 V6. I have replaced the starter. Of course, first disconnect the battery. The starter will not drop straight down, so I had to remove the oil sending unit which is located near the starter (toward the passenger side) and also the oil filter (similarly located). The, after removing the bolts and wires from the starter, it can be moved toward the passenger side of the car and dropped down. Put the new starter in by reversing the path. It's a little messy, because some oil will likely spill when you remove the oil sending unit and the oil filter, but that's how I did it. It works the same way on the 1993 Lumina 4 door Sedan, had a time finding all the screws for the plastic dust cover (for a lack of better words). Try to clean the area if you have had some leakage it makes it so much easier to work with.

How do you install a brake light switch for a 1998 Chevy lumina 3100?
remove panel under drivers dash follow the brake pedal whre it goes up under dash. you will see a switch that contacts the brake pedal arm about 6 or 7 inches up from pedal. unplug the wire connector and just pull switch out it does not screw out it will click as you pull it because a spring tab holds the switch by the threads in the switch. once removed you will notice a button on the end of switch when no pressure is on the switch the switch is in closed circuit position and means power is going to rear brake lights put new switch on connector before mounting it do the stop lights work? yes put the switch back in and adjust as need by changing how deep the switch is in its mount.. no lights check for power on connector no power check fuses than check turn signal switch by wiggling it around while some looks foe lights a bad turn signal switch could cancel you brake lights if there is power on both sides of switch it means power and switch are good check bad bulbs or bad wire harness
Where is Turn signal switch 97 lumina located?
the turn signal switch on a 97 lumina is in the steering coulmn and it's alot of work to fix it and expensive.what i did on mine is to take the wires from the brake lights in the back window and extend the wires longer with more wire and run them to eack rear light houseing.you will have to put a big enough hole in the bottom of the houseing to get the light sockets in through the bottom i used some velcrow that you can stick on at the dollar store and a glue gun for extra hold for the socket to the velcrow and stuck them inside and they work great only thing is you wont have a rear window brake light anymore but thats ok as long as you have the ones on your rear tail lights.it's a magyver job but it works and saves you money and alot of work fixing it the other way.

How do you set timing on 3.4 liter Chevy engine after the timing belt has broke?
Assuming you're talking about the TDC (dohc) motor. Unless you are Very familier with this engine I would'nt advise you to try setting it on your own. The 3.4L dohc or TDC engine requires very precise cam timming. There is only a .010 inch valve clearance between the valves and piston. In most cases, when the timing belt breaks on these engines the piston strikes the valves. These engines have sodium filled valves and are easily damaged. You should consider having a compression test done before even attempting to install a new timing belt. Which also should be installed by a qualified technition. The timing marks are "painted" on @ the factory and probably are no loner visible.

I fixed it......it was the CRANK SENSOR. It's in a hard to find place; got it from under the car, its in between the oil pan and the trany. At the top of the oil pan in the block on a downward angle. There are two other thinges in the block just above it to the right. (looking from under the car)
The brake lights will stay on if the switch is either out of adjustment or damaged. Pull up on the brake pedal to see if it will go out, if it does, you might be able to get by just adjusting the position of the brake light switch. BTW, it's on the brake pedal mechanism, under the dashboard.
Check that there is enough engine coolant. Check to insure that the thermostat is not stuck, and that the water pump is circulating. Turn on the heater on high and high fan. If the temp drops even for a bit this is an indication that the coolant isn't circulating properly and the thermostat or pump are bad.

How do you change the starter on a 2000 Chevy Lumina?
On the 3100 engine, the starter can be found by looking between the radiator and the engine block toward the bottom. Disconnect the battery's positive cable 1st, then two wires on one terminal and a smaller wire on another terminal on the starter. You can get more room to work by disconnecting a plastic socket just above the starter. Move the wire housing that runs parallel to the starter toward the radiator. Remove one short 15mm bolt from underneath the starter on the radiator side. From underneath the car on the other side of the bottom of the starter you will have to remove a portion of the flywheel plastic cover by removing one small screw and loosening another to expose the longer mounting 15mm bolt. The starter should come out.
