Self-propelled gunsHow is the concept of 'discipline' in a Montessori school different from that of an ordinary school?
Much like other discipline tactics in traditional schools, Montessori approaches to discipline focus on mutual respect. Montessori discipline differs from traditional discipline in the theory that since students are choosing their own activities (or, likewise, choosing NOT to do an activity), they establish "ownership" of their educational experience, and are far less likely to act inappropriately. Discipline rules are "generally kept to a minimum, stated and presented in a positive manner with an emphasis on safety, respect for others / environment, and the results benefits all members of the group." Discipline procedures in a Montessori school tend to reflect nurturing and sensitivity, stress personal responsibility, and are utilized to maintain an environment of freedom and comfort. Ideally, traditional school discipline measures such as detentions, suspensions, etc., are avoided as teachers deal with issues on an individual basis inside the classroom.
What was the Nanking Massacre?
Nanking was a city in Northern China that the Japanese destroyed before WWII. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians were murdered in the most brutal fashion. Read "the Rape of Nanking" and you'll see what I mean.
Addition The author committed suicide after admitting that the book was not based on historical research. The pictures in the book are collection from several cities of China, including Shanghai and many of them are modified.
The Rape of Nanking started when Japan took control of the former Chinese capital, Nanking. The Japanese soldiers went ballistic. They tortured people in ways that no words can describe. They first tried to bury all the bodies, but soon found that to be ineffective. They then just threw bodies into the Yangtze River. Lakes and rivers were stained with blood and turned bright red. In 7 weeks they had killed more than 300,000 people. After the war, they denied all that. Even today many people don't know about this forgotten holocaust.
Addition Harold John Timperley, journalist who first (anonymously) accused Japan for the massacre of 40,000, was being paid by Chiang Kai-shek.
Chiang Kai-shek himself never mentioned the massacre in his 300+ times of interview.
The population of Nanking was 200,000 before pre-war and 250,000 post-war. How did Japanese Army killed 300,000 people and added 550,000 to population afterwards is a mystery.

Why do Chinese and Japanese people look alike?
Japanese people are actually Chinese people.
[2011-01-16]
Japanese people now claim that on the genetic level, the majority (40%-50%) of them belong to Haplogroup D2 (Y-DNA), and so they are a "rather homogenous group of people". Because Haplogroup D2 (Y-DNA) is also the marker of the indigenous Ainu people, they are "directly descended from the very first peoples who inhabited the land" and so they have "a legitimate claim to the land".
Haplogroup D2 (Y-DNA) is a child of Haplogroup DE (Y-DNA), which in turn is also the parent of Haplogroup E (Y-DNA). Haplogroup E (Y-DNA) occurs in very high frequencies in sub-Saharan Africa. In other words, it can be said that the Japanese people are more related to Tibetans, Andanamese, sub-Saharan Africans (in that order), rather than to the Chinese people, who are majority Haplogroup O (Y-DNA). Southern Chinese have the highest incidences of Haplogroup O (Y-DNA). The Chinese people are thus more related to the Caucasians of Haplogroup R1 (Y-DNA), via their common ancestor Haplogroup MNOPS (Y-DNA).
The perception that Chinese and Japanese people look similar may be due to the similar latitude and/or environments in which they evolve in the more recent past.
[2011-02-13]
The Japanese further claim that they are majority Haplogroup D4 (mtDNA) via the maternal line.
Haplogroup D4 (mtDNA) is most frequently found among Koreans, and it is claimed that Haplogroup D4 (mtDNA) is a major contributor to Japanese longevity. That said, the parent Haplogroup D (mtDNA) can be found in high frequencies in the peoples of Central Asia.
The Japanese also claim Haplogroups (mtDNA) B and F to be present in lower frequencies in their maternal lines, but these do not contribute to Japanese longevity.
Haplogroups (mtDNA) B and F are more frequently found in Southern Chinese and Southeast Asian populations. Compared to Haplogroup D (mtDNA), Haplogroups (mtDNA) B and F are much more closely related to Haplogroup H (mtDNA), which is frequently found among Caucasians, via their common ancestor Haplogroup R (mtDNA).
What government is in charge in China?
China has a system they call "party led Democracy", but which is more accurately described as an oligarchy. One must be approved by the ruling "Chinese Communist Party" (Which has never practiced Communism) to run for any position. At the National Level they are ruled by an elected party Congress (chosen from party-approved candidates touting nearly identical party lines) which then selects the Standing Committee of the Politburo by vote. The Politburo has nine members, most of the real power, and usually selects the Chairman of the Party and the President (often the same person) from amongst themselves. Often before a new member of the Politburo is chosen the Chairman will make a speech in which he more or less indirectly informs the National Congress how they had better vote.
What did people do after the Korean War?
Why are Maggie Sweet fashions no longer sold on HSN?
HSN has hired a new CEO and she has phased out all the lower end fashions and jewelry. It is too bad, because there are shoppers at all economic levels that shop HSN. It is still far better than QVC and the customer service it better. I have had terrible problems getting QVC to replace items and credit me. I have
shopped HSN for 14 years and have never had one problem. jp
Why was the ming dynasty called ming?
Ming means brilliant in Chinese. Hongwu named this dynasty "brilliant" because he wanted to show case Chinese society after the Mongol expulsion and erase all memory that the occupation had ever occured. So the Ming Dynasty = the Brilliant Dynasty.
(Add on: it's not just because Ming means bright, but because it comes from the Ming religion. In the last years of Yuan Dynasty, there were floods from Yellow River and earthquake and the government was corrupted. The natural disasters were thought as a 'message from sky'. The religion of Ming was basically about the world made up of good and evil (bright and dark), when dark time comes, a 'ming' king will appear. Hongwu Emperor believed he was the ming king, so the dynasty was called 'Ming'. )
P.S. Most of the other dynasties were named after a place, or a title the emperor was given when they were a warlord.
