How did dictators acquire and expand power in Europe in the 1930s?
In several ways. First, it upset the delicate status quo, leaving a power vacuum. At the time the safeguards against the rise of dictators were not in place, so small radical parties were able to take advantage of the situation. Other people like Joseph Stalin (Soviet Union) used force to rise to power, and people feared him enough not to oppose his actions.
Are china and North Korea under a dictatorship?
Yes. It is a typical communist country, in that the people can vote, but, they can only vote for one person-a communist. The leader of North Korea does not allow a free press, or allow people to have much control over their lives. North Koreans have been known to starve to death, or flee to China, to escape tyranny in North Korea. North Korea recently torpedoed and sunk a South Korean ship, which almost equal to declaring war on it's southern neighbor. North Korea is certainly run by a dictator and one who's mental abilities have been the subject of much negative speculation.

What are the pros and cons of dictators of ancient Rome?
During, especially the days of the ancient Roman, the office of dictator was created to handle a serious situation most expeditiously. A war was a perfect example of when decisions needed to be made quickly. The usual process of a program or project working its way through the Roman government was too slow in a time of war, when time can be so very important.
The term of office was a year at most and with any luck the crisis could be resolved
within a year. If not a dictator could be appointed or reappointed.
Anytime a mass of power is directed into one hand, there is always a danger of abuse. All of human history has shown that absolute power can be absolutely corrupting.
The dictator system seemed to work as best as it could, as mentioned in the early republican days. However in the time of Sulla, as example, his dictatorship can be called to question regarding abuse of power.
By the time of Julius Caesar's dictatorship, the "dictator for life" term was clearly a step away from the original purpose of the republican dictator.
How did Hitler turn Germany into a one party dictatorship?
He persuaded his Cabinet to declare a state of emergency and end individual freedoms, including freedom of press, speech, and assembly. Individuals lost the right to privacy, which meant that officials could read people's mail, listen in on telephone conversations, and search private homes without a warrant.
Hitler also relied on terror to achieve his goals. Lured by the wages, a feeling of comradeship, and the striking uniforms, tens of thousands of young jobless men put on the brown shirts and high leather boots of the Nazi Storm Troopers (Sturmabteilungen).Called the SA, these auxiliary policemen took to the streets to beat up and kill some opponents of the Nazi regime. Mere fear of the SA pressured into silence other Germans who did not support the Nazis.

Hitler became the chancellor in January 1933; he was working closely with Hindenburg but had no real power. Although he had 2 other Nazis in the cabinet he could be sacked at any time. Also at this point, Hitler didn't have a majority in the Reichstag and had to bring in help from elsewhere.
On the first of February Hitler managed to convince Hindenburg to have new elections in the Reichstag, this gave Hitler to gain the majority he needed to change the Weimar constitution. On the 27th of February 1933 the Reichstag is burnt down. A Dutch communist was found at the scene with fire starting equipment. Hitler used the opportunity and blamed the communists and showed everyone how dangerous they were and by the next day 4,000 communists had been arrested.
The next day Hindenburg issued the decree for the protection of people and the state. This meant Hitler could arrest anyone he wanted without trial. Hindenburg said it was to protect from the KPD (the communists). After the fire they hosted the election on the 5th of March. The Nazis gained 288 seats but they didn't get the 2/3rds majority they needed to issue the "enabling act".
Hitler then tried to brainwash the German people by appointing Goebbels as head of the ministry for public enlightenment and propaganda so he could have total control over the media. Hitler continued with his "brainwashing" by taking all the "alien elements" out of the education system like Jews and non Nazi supporters.
Hitler organised the day of Potsdam which celebrated the opening of the new Reichstag, this was intended to win over more conservative supporters and more importantly the centre part and the army. After wards Hitler joined with the nationalist party to get his 2/3rds majority, he then passed the enabling act granting him emergency powers so he could rule Germany without consulting the Reichstag for 4 years.
On the 14th of July Hitler passed a law on the formation of new political parties. So this stopped other parties from being formed so Germany became a one party state run by the Nazis. Hitler also realised that the church had a lot of power over the German people and could have great influence so he formed an alliance with the Catholic Church and said he wouldn't interfere with them if they didn't interfere with political activity.
On the 30th of June Hitler organised the assassination of a claimed 70 SA members but others predict there was about 400 deaths that night. Hitler realised that Rohm had a lot of power and with a lot of loyal supporters but he couldn't just arrest him without losing support of the SA so he murdered the top SA leaders and accused them of treason.
Two days later Hindenburg died and Hitler appointed himself president of Germany and merges chancellor and president into the same role of 'Fuher' this is when Germany became a dictatorship and Hitler made the army swear an oath that they would serve him and only him.

Why did dictators become popular in World War 2?
They never really started to rule, they somewhat came to power over the years. The great depression in the late '20's and early 30's affected not only the U.S. but also most of Europe, and the people needed someone to turn to, someone who will look out for them in time of need. Now, Hitler took some advantage of that and rallied the people using propaganda and public speeches to aid his rising power. Fascist leaders like Benito Mussalini, the Italian dictator, took liking to the ideas and actions of Hitler. This paragraph is only very brief of what really took place.

How did Hitler consolidate power until he became Fuhrer?
Propaganda.
Propaganda was the main thing that the Nazi's used to indoctrinate the German people. They used the media to the fullest through radio, movies, magazines and newspapers. They also used propaganda with posters, signs, mail, and cards.
Education.
To make their propaganda most effective they educated the youth in their universities and schools. Nazi Youth groups were organized at first as patriotic groups but became a breeding ground for the leadership of the Nazi Party, Army and SS.
Social Division.
The Nazi's prided themselves on being a super race, therefore all other races were inferior to them (subhuman). These group gradually had their rites taken away from them, treated harshly and put in ghetto's. The Jews were singled out as one of these groups.
German Patriotism.
After Germany's loss to the Allies in World War I, Germany went into a major depression caused by the treaty forcing Germany to pay for the war. Inflation skyrocketed and poverty gripped Germany. The Nazi Party thrived in this type of climate of disparity. The Nazi's gradually brought pride back to the German people. The Olympics is an example and the taking back the territory that the Allies took from Germany in WWI (Austria & Czechoslovakia) gave Germans a great feeling of patriotism.
he lead the Nazis to victory that's why
What did Julius Caesar do that made him so popular that he was elected dictator for life?
Much of Casar's popularity came from his military conquests. But also, despite being unpopular with the Senate and the aristocracy, he had a good sense of the common touch, and undertook many popular public works.
No Roman ruler forced the senate to name him dictator. During the Roman Republic the dictatorship was an extraordinary officer of state appointed to deal with emergencies and with a term of office of 6 months. The only exceptions to this were Lucius Cornelius Sulla who was appointed for an indeterminate period (he resigned after 1 year) and Julius Caesar, who was appointed four times and in the second one was appointed for an indeterminate period, the third one for ten years and the fourth one for life. Neither Sulla nor Caesar forced the senate to appoint them.
