Do you believe that racism leads to slavery or does slavery lead to racism?

I don't really know the history to why Americans started bringing over Africans to be slaves, but is probably was just because Africa at the time was very advanced compared to the rest of the world, so it would be very easy to capture Africans and send them over to America to be slaves. Once that happened, people didn't think it was wrong to own a slave, and then started think of the slaves as inferior to them. Thus started racism. In short, I believe (as far as American history goes) that it was slavery that lead to racism. Just remember that the African ancestors sold their kinfolk to the white man. The white man did not sail to Africa and loot people. They were sold by their own kind.

Why are they called the Stanford Cardinal not cardinals?

From the beginning of the university in 1891 the school color has been cardinal (and from the Forties, cardinal and white). In the early years there was no mascot, and Bay Area sportswriters referred to SU teams as "The Cardinal."

From 1930 to 1972 Stanford adopted "Indians" as its mascot and nickname. There is speculation as to how that came about, but one version is that one sportswriter began referring to the SU teams as "The Tribe" and "Indians" in the Twenties and it stuck even before the university officially adopted it in 1930. In 1972 a group of Native American students backed by the nationwide movement against sports teams using Indians as mascots protested that the use of the Indian mascot was demeaning. After a couple close votes in referendums on the issue, the university dropped the Indian as its mascot. (From 1951 to 1972 the mascot was Timm Williams, a Yurok tribesman, who loved Stanford, traveled from his home in far northern California to represent the university at his own expense, and who always performed authentic dances in authentic costume without engaging in behavior that would bring ridicule to himself, his people, or the university -- from the personal observation and acquaintanceship of this writer.)

During the ensuing ten years a number of elections were held to pick another mascot from among suggestions ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. In 1981 by fiat, the university president declared that Stanford teams would simply be represented by the color Cardinal as they had been before and during the Indian period.

The dancing tree is not the university mascot. Rather it was initiated as the Stanford Band's parody of the whole mascot-choosing process in the Seventies, but it has now lasted almost as long as the Indian had. The Tree comes from the El Palo Alto tree (California Historical Landmark number 2) which is depicted at the center of the university's seal and which still stands in the City of Palo Alto across from the university campus.

Stanford has never been known as the "Cardinals," and there is no reference to such birds in its history.

Did Adolf Hitler hate Hispanics?

Keep in mind Hitler lived in central Europe his whole life, so he had almost no interaction with Hispanics in contrast to Jews, although one time he along with Mussolini gave their full support to Fransisco Franco's civil war in Spain. There is no account of him ever setting foot in Spanish Latin America, so of what we know it doesn't seem he had any anti Hispanic views.

Due to his "Aryan Race" Theories of a "Master Race" -- most likely, the Latin Americans would have been included in the "inferior race catagory. Hitler had anthropologist design posters which separated the world by race. He favored Franco and the Spaniards because he viewed them as "European" and therefore "white". The targets were normally people who had been "tainted by interbreeding" -- mixing of races -- or whom he believed as "subhuman" --- Asian, Africans, Jews, Slavs. He looked down on Native Americans -- therefore, any indigenous blood -- not European -- would be "not under the terms of the master race".

Side note: Imperial Japan was waging its own "dominance" in Asia and the Pacifc -- so, Hitler used this to his advantage to keep the "Americans" busy during his takeover of Europe. Italy kept the African continent busy in WWII. Most likely -- he did not see the Japanese as "equal" -- only necessary -- which is the reason why the Nazi-Soviet Pact was signed by Hitler and Stalin on the eve of the Nazi invasion of Poland. It was in light of "self-interest" to sign such an arrangement as he did not favor "communism" nor "slavs" -- both of which he viewed as a major characteristic of the Soviet Union.

Did saying yes ma'am and yes sir originate with slavery?

NO! It did not start with slavery! This has been n every European country lanuage for 800 years or more.

Sir is an honorific address used as a courtesy title to address a man without using his given name or family name in many English speaking cultures. It is often used in formal correspondence (Dear Sir, Right Reverend Sir).

The term is often reserved for use only towards one of superior rank or status, such as an educator, or as a form of address from a merchant to a customer.

Equivalent terms of address are "ma'am" or "madam" in most cases, or in the case of a very young woman, girl, or unmarried woman who prefers to be addressed as such, "miss". The equivalent term for a knighted woman is Dame, or "Lady" for the wife of a knight.

Sir derives from the Middle French honorific title sire (messire gave rise to mylord), from the Old French sieur (itself a contraction of Seigneurmeaning 'lord'), from the Latin adjective senior(elder), which yielded titles of respect in many European languages. The form sir is first documented in English in 1297, as title of honor of a knight or baronet, being a variant of sire, which was already used in English since at least c.1205 as a title placed before a name and denoting knighthood, and to address the (male) Sovereign since c.1225, with additional general senses of "father, male parent" is from c.1250 and "important elderly man" from 1362.

Is The Bible homophobic?

In spite of it's outward appearance, the Bible is not homophobic. Homosexuality was only identified very recently in the last century by Sigmund Freud, in Biblical days, it was naturally assumed that everybody was heterosexual. That is why it has taken so long for gays to gain acceptance, because they were only identified very recently, and in the Bible, homosexual actions were likened to crimes such as burglary, murder or rape. As a matter of fact, the Bible does not condemn homosexual actions as it is, the reason that many modern-day Christians believe otherwise is due to a series of gross misinterpretations of the Bible.

Only seven verses in the Bible of around a million have anything to say about men lying with men, or women lying with women, while Jesus himself never said anything about gays, neither did St. Paul or any of the apostles.

Why do companies practice discrimination?

Price discrimination is based on the idea that each customer has his or her own maximum price he or she will pay for a good. If a monopolist sets the good's price at the highest maximum price of all the buyers in the market, the monopolist will only sell to the one customer willing to pay that much. If the monopolist sets a low price, the monopolist will gain a lot of customers, but the monopolist will lose the profits it could have made from the customers who bought at the low price but were willing to pay more.

Price discrimination recognizes that groups of consumers are willing and able to pay different amounts for a good. (gradpoint)
